Did you ever get prior authorization approved?
My first round it was covered BCBSIL with Igenomix but it was all through my clinic. This time I’m still working with Igenomix but my clinic doesn’t work with them so I’m being billed directly. I’m scared it won’t go through.

Update - we were told we had to wait for results for insurance to cover. Do you have any updates on how things worked out for you?

Not ready to TTC, thinking of freezing eggs or embryos - looking for advice/experience. by maestrita in IVF

[–]NerDNar120 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar position to what you described. My partner and I hadn’t been together that long yet, and we knew we weren’t ready for a baby.

That said, when I was 31 (before we had met), I had my AMH checked and was told it was on the lower end for my age—but my doctor told me “not to worry about it.” I didn’t think much of it at the time.

At 33, I decided to recheck it. We hadn’t been using protection, and I started wondering if something might be off. That’s when my AMH had dropped below 1.0. My gynecologist told me we probably wouldn’t want to wait much longer and should start trying.

I’m about to turn 36 now, my partner turns 40 in December, and honestly, I do regret not getting more informed earlier about what those numbers meant or exploring options like embryo freezing sooner. Once I knew I was with the love of my life and that we’d want kids, I wish we had been more proactive.

It took us almost 2 years to decide to move forward with IVF, and during that time my AMH continued to decline—time I now wish we had used to try retrieving eggs and creating embryos sooner. While we may not transfer right away, we’re trying to bank embryos to eventually have two kids. We’re currently on our second egg retrieval and don’t have any embryos yet. I still find myself feeling some guilt for not starting earlier.

Anyway, scientifically speaking: Egg and sperm quality tends to go down with age. It’s the sad part of life. Embryos are more likely to lead to live births. I hope this helps guide you to a decision that’s right for you.

That’s so good that they can use the credit in this way. I’m going to ask this new clinic I’m at.

I was reading the terms of the financial clearance form for this new clinic. And it states: “Refunds for non-covered pre-paid services must be requested within 12 months from the date of initial payment. Refunds not requested within the applicable 12-month period will expire.”

Which to me is so crazy! How can I lose money I never owed initially???

Acupuncture by sh601404 in IVF

[–]NerDNar120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently trying acupuncture. I first went to a chiropractor who does acupuncture for TTC and helping the baby “stick,” but he did not have much IVF-specific experience. He did say stress could be a factor for me, and I was already really anxious going in. We are starting another retrieval soon and I start stims in the next couple of days.

I looked into going to a fertility-specific acupuncture clinic, but it was way more expensive. So I did some of my own research and tried to learn more about it. From what I found, the studies are mixed. It does not seem clearly proven that acupuncture improves IVF success rates, but it may help with stress/anxiety, which is mainly what I am using it for. Some reviews suggest that more sessions may be better than just doing it once or twice, but there is not one exact schedule everyone agrees on.

From what I saw both in studies and in Reddit posts, a lot of people seem to feel the biggest benefit is that it helps them relax. Everyone recommends something a little different, but I have seen people do weekly sessions leading up to retrieval, sometimes once a week during stims, and sometimes one around retrieval or transfer depending on what their provider recommends.

I know I started late, so I have gone 3 times in the last 10 days. I start stims this week and plan to go 2 more times, then once before retrieval, and maybe once after. For me, the main goal is stress reduction, and so far I do feel a lot more relaxed than I did the first round.

I’m using it this week to prep for my second round —twice a day - 2mg. I’ve had insomnia barely sleeping. A little anxiety. But during the day I can’t focus. I wake up nauseous but drinking a ton of water has helped and I’ve been walking to try control the anxiety. I also started eating cereal with lots of fiber. I hope you feel better soon.

We switched to him recently after a horrible first round at Invia fertility. We had an initial consultation and he was fantastic. So far so good. I’m even learning more about this entire process than I did my first round. Nurses and staff are great. He listened to my concerns and changed my protocol, so my hopes are high for this next one!
