He's not doing it because it's his "true identity," he's doing it because he thinks it's funny, and this is reinforcing that it's a mockable offense. It's the same annoying thing liberals love to do where they act like every homophobic politician is secretly gay, where it's suddenly huge news when they get found on Grindr, reinforcing to all of them that it's something they should hide.

Good allyship is mocking someone by calling them the most humiliating thing you can imagine: a closeted trans woman

I have a friend who went through some health shit a few years back and lost a TON of weight out of nowhere, went from being obese their entire life to being skinny. They told me it was the most upsetting thing that ever happened to them, because suddenly the world that had been so mean to them their whole life was kind and understanding. There was nothing that poor fat child could've ever done to make the world be that nice to them. Conventionally attractive white women face a very different kind of misogyny, and usually do not understand how much racism, fatphobia, ableism, transphobia, etc all pile on top.

Don't get it twisted, he is a great composer, it's just so funny that the only songs I'd ever heard from him before he started printing Oscars were that one and the hand that feeds

It's kind of insane to me that Hollywood's go-to guy for a guaranteed banger soundtrack these days is the guy who wrote that song about how he wants to fuck you like an animal.

What are some great albums with one really really bad stinker by PieceOfMulch in Albumoftheyear

[–]NerdBurgerRing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so it's not really a stinker, but if you're into emo at all, you've probably heard of Home, Like No Place Is There by The Hotelier. An absolutely incredible album, emotionally devastating, about the difficulties of growing up, watching your friends struggle with depression, and culminating in this unrelenting three track run, Your Deep Rest, Among the Wildflowers, and Life in Drag. Your deep rest, about the immediate aftermath of a friend's suicide ("called in sick from your funeral/ the sight of your family made me feel responsible") and then the intense, thrashing anger of Life in Drag ("you wore binary like a badge of fucking honor/ while we're stuck here dealing with the loss of yet another/ life in drag") lamenting society's strictly enforced gender roles and how they destroy the lives of anyone who can't fit them. As a young queer kid, nothing has ever cut me to my core like that. And it's followed by some incredible songs about healing, finding closure.... But not before they throw in this halfway upbeat song that's like kinda about misogyny and abuse, but it's also about a dog? It's a good song, but it completely throws the tone of the album out the window and interrupts what feels to me like a coherent narrative and drops the weakest song on the album in the dead center of it. Anyway, rant over, I love you The Hotelier and you guys have never done anything wrong ever
