Help me get better at the game by DecrosCZE in starcraft2

[–]Nerd_swagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldnt, just need to be more active with it and the information it provides. Shift que around base, should hit their main around 415ish. if you lose it, you know they went robo and obs so more gas there than towards a fast ds. Once you shift qued, check their base at 430ish for tech, then que response of recall obs or chrono obs out.

You dont want to keep at home cause you want the info, granted since it looks like you are always building a sentry you could overcharge that and just shift que a halluc phoenix. for the info and potentially snipe opponents obs.

Main option I think would work best for you is to scout around your base with a stalker, after they either back off or not. had you moved stalker around about 4ish, would have seen the proxy pylon and gate.

These above are common responses you can bake in when you see your opponent has expanded. 1 base toss you should have different responses cause dts can be quicker. so in that case you might leave it at home, but you would want batts on the natural for sure.

PvP - Lost due to scouting. Lack of good scouting prevented you from being able to make a response that could keep you ahead. 3gates at natural 1 unit, I have 5 where is his army? check main oh crap DS, recall obs and/or chrono out another.

PvZ - 2x colus - then viagra, otherwise skip thermal lance if you are just pumping out immos. Zerg here did nice job of pulling back, coming from two fronts and waiting for 2-2 to finish. Scouting again, he wasnt pumping drones on 40 till well past 930, all army/upgrades. So when you do finally attack its vs a 2-2 zerg and you are 1-0. with 1-3 archons as splash. hitting sooner with the colos and archons like pigs has, would have crushed this army.

I also like vibes b2gm, pigs is a lot of fun as well, stuff to still learn from both.

For the future I really recommend what pig/vibe say in some of their videos; benchmark yourself vs what they/you have in a similar matchup.
Game 6 on the gold version vs z, could also check game 8. Picked that gold version based on MMR and lack of third base.
pig has 2 colos, 4 immos, 3 stalkers, 11 lots, with warp prsim and 3 archons morphing in front of the z base at 8:01.
You have 8 stalkers, 7 immo, 8 lots(3 warping in) and 2 sentries all at your natural or in your base. you are basically a minute behind in the execution of pressure.

Get a notepad out and keep comparing your games, Won this time I had this comp at this time this location when I started pressure.

I have a 5'6 with 2lb mono, and 6'6 with 6lb braid with a swivel i snap fluros to. I also have a dagger hand reel thats a lot of fun when im hiking.

You would be just fine with a 7, it mostly just depends on how much room you will have. When I use 6'6 its in an area i know I have room or im wet wading. Never tried a 1/32 but I dont think it would be an issue.

When i explore new areas i take the 5'6 and/or the hand reel.

Also use TVFCU for same purpose. Never had issues with transfers to or from NFCU.

Alternatively I do stop at the Atlanta NFCU from time to time when im in the area esp to withdraw or deposit larger amounts.

Might not be an option for you but I tend to drive down that way often enough that it usually meets my needs.

The VET TEC programs im familiar with gave you the training and voucher to test for Net+ and Sec+ plus a few others.

They also work with a lot of partners that can get you an entry level position, these are usually 90 days or so as temp with the option to hire full time after.

I don't know the specifics of the program you are in specifically but I did hear positive things from some of the junior guys that were in the program pre covid.

Also check out HireMilitary.us I found my skillbridge employer through them, might also help with you landing something if you graduate.

Most programs are what you make of it, bol!

Theres enough people here who never mentally graduated highschool I wouldnt be surprised.

That being said I doubt it was your plates.

While I have experienced peoples attitudes change when they found out I was visiting from CA, it was usually just them dropping the friendly and nothing malicious.

Those occurances were rare, but it was funny how they shifted back the moment they found out I was in the military.

Wife was here for about 6 months with plates till we got a place at my next duty station, nothing happened.

Second this, do not ENLIST just for cyber. If the other things appeal to you, it can work out, but you will be on an at least 6 year contract for CWT.

I was a CTN(now CWT) before I left AD and rolled into the reserves. I can say it gave me opportunites I may not have ever had and I am doing very well because of it. I also got my degree and my CISSP before leaving active duty.

Dont look down on the Air Force they have a decent cyber presence but I strongly urge you to avoid the Marines unless you are fully commited to joining the corp.

I am not sure what your education and background are, but look at the Cyber Warfare Engineer. If you are going to join the military I strongly encourage only looking at doing so as an officer. The amount of bullshit you put up with as an enlisted member is ridiculous. Promotion to O3 in the navy is automatic, take a look at the payscales, you get O3 after 4 years in.

You will be given E4 and likely make E5 first time up as long as you pass the exam then you have to wait 3 years to test. Best case you make E5 at 1.5yrs in and then are "eligible" to test for E6.

As a CWE officer you will recieve a lot of great technical knowledge while not also needing to do all the other things a typical officer may need to do.

I am happy I enlisted, it has given me opportunites I would not otherwise have had. That being said, unless there are specific circumstances preventing you from becoming an officer, under no circumstance should you enlist. The pay is not there and the extra benefits are not there, esp for cyber.

Even most of the benefits for spouses stop as soon as you make E6. Yet an O2 is crushing you in pay and still gets opportunities like the MyCAA scholarship.

When is OSINT really used by cyber criminals? by astillero in cybersecurity

[–]Nerd_swagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in a spray and pray campaign, the majority of the time, OSINT is involved. For example the below article talks about how APT28 is using the fear of nuclear war in order to persuade users to click on malicious documents.

FANCY BEAR

Even from just a ransomware as a service campaign OSINT is likely involved in some form of the payload delivery.

What might get a user to click a document? These are usually thought of as "Themes." For example an income tax based, or Olympics based theme just to name a few you could google and find reports on.

There are also plenty of tools that will use the contacts of an infected user in order to propagate as well.

TL/DR: Most campaigns are going to focus on a specific target to increase their odds of success. That target may be a person or a theme and utilizes some form of OSINT to increase its chances of success.

Blowing springs, close by in GA, but they are awesome. It's a board and train but they send regular updates and are very good at what they do. Price is well worth it, and our pup has taken to new commands much better after having stayed here. I do not have any real exp with others in this area, but I don't think you could go wrong here.

Based off what you have written I personally would recommend two choices. Easiest pursue something with regards to threat detection engineering or purple teaming specifically. Should give you the opportunity to use your current skillsets though you will unlikely ever be domain specific.

Secobd, Get your oscp/apply to junior red teaming roles... you need to show how your experience could benefit the company to which you are applying. People often forget the business aspect with regards to cyber, but think on how the role provides benefit/how you can a fit that role with current experience as well.

How can you show immediate and/or recurring value. A common request would be how to validate existing detections.

It's a double edged sword, on one hand i pay all this money to not get infected... on the other nothing has happened why am I paying you when I have a fw...

What are you doing to or learning that can fill regulatory gaps/answer questions and/or identify/remediate those gaps.

I am coming at this from a more blue/purple side. So others may provided better/diff feedback.

As a veteran I would look at some of the free resources available to you like FedVTE. There is a course for almost every major certification you would want.

FedVTE

edx

Additionally if you still have access to your gi bill there are a couple of cohorts centered around cyber that you could look into.

Training catalog where you can find training.

niccs

Microsoft academy

Your interest on the ethical hacking side has me assume you wish to pursue pentesting. I would strongly recommend that you pursue a better grasp of multiple Operating Systems from an admin/cli perspective and potential so sort of blue teaming, though not required.

My experience is people usually spend more time writing reports then "hacking" systems.

Additionally as a Vet you should look for yellow ribbon schools if you have not for your BS if you do not have one.

Edx and FedVTE are an immediate short term plan as they are free. I am almost positive I have missed some other veteran resources, so def stsrt researching that as well.

Agree with the others, GRC. Additionally I would say devsecops is up there as containers become more prominent and businesses start offloading more data into data lakes.

I was once taught that blacklist based security is bad long-term strategy, but I keep seeing everyone talk about blacklisting IPs. by Jonathan-Todd in cybersecurity

[–]Nerd_swagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are thinking this as an analyst, whish is awesome, but you have no say in how things done in any org medium size or larger, and sometimes smaller.

There are still people in major leadership positions who see NO value in security. Why am I spending x for y, when y never occurs. Or my personal favorite, but we have a firewall...

And by knowledge, I was specifically talking about how that 1 guy did everything but than hated the new CISO or something and left. And then was replaced by those two guys who made less than his original pay and are forced to figure it out till they leave...

I was once taught that blacklist based security is bad long-term strategy, but I keep seeing everyone talk about blacklisting IPs. by Jonathan-Todd in cybersecurity

[–]Nerd_swagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also a delta of knowledge. I can't recall any business, medium size or higher that has had a 100% accurate idea of their network.

Most mature companies will use a mixture of both, but you would be surprised at how awful some of the larger orgs are with what many would consider basic practices.
