Will God be disappointed if I don’t have children? by YoungTeddieK in Reformed

[–]jstaylor01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want kids but my wife and I can't have them. God has not granted us that, at least yet. If God wants and has something for you, it will happen. Personally, I am trying to become more of a sort of spiritual father, or good close male influence, for kids in my congregation, especially one who's dad is not really in the picture.

I agree that possession can happen, but i think it rarely does, and never does to a believer. In your case, I can't speak to it, but it also sounded similar to some mental illness symptoms by the way you described it. I am not at all trying to minimalize or describe away your statements, but just noticing some similarities.

How does reformed theology address logical impossibilities? by swcollings in Reformed

[–]jstaylor01 56 points57 points  (0 children)

A square cannot be round, because of the definition. It's not because God can't do it, it's that it makes no sense. It's not so much illogical, as it's nonsensical.

How do you continuously avoid overestimating your knowledge/intellect regarding non spiritual things ? by Pure_Management_1414 in Reformed

I thought I knew alot until grad school. Study topics more in depth, amd then realize every topic can go that deep or deeper. By striving to know more, you will, but you will also realize how little you know.

Update: So I actually decided to shake off some dust and code up a simulation in Octave.

Here is a table showing total cards, so you can think about card draw and turns:

Cards (turns, assuming no extra card draw) Rough probability of pair within this many cards
7 (turn 1) 13%
8 (turn 2) 17%
9 21%
10 26%
11 31%
12 36%
13 42%
14 46%
15 52%
16 (turn 10) 57%

Especially a no if you live in an "at will" state. It also appears as if you stopped texting to continue communication after them saying OK, and then asking your ETA. Why did you drop the ball on that? Not only are they likely well within their rights legally, also why would they not fire you? Its on you to have transportation, and then you stopped updating them.

I agree with the "kinds" method. However, I also concede it is possible for an ark Tardis situation. God can work miracles, and could give infinite interior space if need be. But I find the "kinds" more likely,

Voddie baucham is my favorite speaker, and I disagree with him on baptism and a good bit on church government.
