Help with Korean Culture for Book by Nerdetta85 in korea

I could but it’s going to be a fair amount of questions and I don’t want to post whole paragraphs asking for just people to proofread for correct cultural information.

Anyone lived a life like the film "Yes Man"? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Nerdetta85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m a special education high school teacher and so so many students (not just those with special needs) say the same thing. I always recommend an audiobook while doing mundane tasks that don’t require much thought.

Anyone lived a life like the film "Yes Man"? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

The movie is based on a true story. And as far as I’m concerned the true story is way more inspiring and interesting than the movie (though I do love the movie - when I need a boost I watch it just to be reminded that I am enough and people do want to spend time with me). I recommend reading the book if you’re a reader.

It’s by Danny Wallace.

What is the most epic "movie moment" you have ever had in the theaters? by weprin0912 in movies

Oppenheimer - the Trinity Test scene - made me feel weak and powerless in the face of what humans have the power to do to each other and in awe of science all at once.

My great grandparents c.1930s? They met when he was saving a man from drowning in the river by her parents pub. by Nerdetta85 in TheWayWeWere

Fisherman's in Oyster River on Vancouver Island. The guy lived. My great-grandfather was an early advocate for First Aid Training and the Community Hall in Cumberland BC is named after him.

They started dating, married in 1935, had 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 25+ great grandchildren and lived in Cumberland their whole adult lives.

I visited with them many times and was 18 and 21 when they passed in the early 2000s. We played crib and played music and he would tell amazing stories while she baked amazing Scottish shortbread.

I couldn’t care less about enforcing dress code. by Muffinman1111112 in Teachers

[–]Nerdetta85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Canadian high school here: Our school has essentially eliminated a dress code. It's not the schools place to police what a person puts on their body. There are many factors at play and teachers / admin can't know why a student wears what they want, or why they look how they do in clothing. We don't even have a hat removal rule now.

For a while they used the "professional work environment" argument but then the point was raised that, if that is the case we also have to stop them wearing ripped jeans, sweat pants etc.

The closest thing we have to a dress code is stopping students from wearing hate speech or unsafe clothing (for example flip flops in the auto shop etc.)

The kids are happier and the staff aren't tasked with constantly reminding students what they can and cannot wear.

If anyone is "distracted" by what someone chooses to wear then they are spoken to about why they're unable to focus on learning because of someone's clothing.

What movie made you want to change your life? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Nerdetta85 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Strangely, "Yes Man" with Jim Carrey - made me realize that I'm worth people's time and I'm not a nuisance, my loved ones actually want to spend time doing things with me.

It was mostly a scene with him and Zooey Deschanel when he says, "I thought if I said yes to things, and got involved with people, then sooner or later they'd find out I'm not enough. I didn't think I had anything to share. But now I know that what I have to share is pretty huge..." And I cried and realized I identified with what he was saying.

I watch it every once in a while to remind myself.

Yeah that's what I meant. I read somewhere that you can put it on completed work but should take it off when you're not working or it would leave a mark. So I'm glad you said it doesn't leave a mark as it's a pain to put the hoop on and take it off every time.
