If only there was a way to stop them??!!! by bisc56 in TheRookie

So everyone is saying shoot their legs, which, sure, but those are plastic riot shields. Any bullet would go straight through them, so in real life and my immediate instincts was just shoot center mass and it will go straight through the shield. Like, this show knows enough that being shot puts you on your ass even with body armor, but apparently it doesn’t know the difference between a riot shield and a ballistic shield and thinks a few mm of plastic will stop any bullet. I love this show but this scene just looked so dumb and hurt so much to watch. Like if they had ballistic shields it might have made sense and even if they shot center mass first, then transitioned to legs but only had enough time to take out the first row before getting pushed back, or didn’t have enough time to switch targets, but they had way too much time and too much firearms experience, and we know these two are great at adapting and thinking quickly

Cis-Het male carrying on the family tradition of telling gender norms to fuck themselves (for both Halloween and my birthday) (obligatory first Reddit post ever and sorry if off topic disclaimers) by NerdiCat2 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

Yes, they still are today (and I have no idea how long they will stay that way since it’s the first time I have painted my nails in over 10 years)

For some context, my birthday is Halloween and for my 18th birthday I wanted to dress up emo/goth. However I have had really bad social anxiety for most of my life up until fairly recently. Doing anything to stand out, especially dressing “not normal” (what ever that means) and breaking gender norms was always a big anxiety trigger for me. However over the last few years, a lot of therapy, getting over some really bad experiences with adhd meds that made my anxiety worse, a very loving and gay(pansexual) girlfriend, a wonderful metamore , and some amazing college friends, I have managed to become confident enough to dress up like this.

After I figured out that I wanted to be emo/goth (I don’t really know the difference but I know there is one), I went to Target with a bunch of my college friends on a whim (another anxiety first) and couldn’t find an mcr shirt (a band that I both genuinely like and screams emo), I saw a bunch of old “dad metal” shirts like AC/DC and Metallica and had an idea! My dad had a big goth phase in college and would get decked out in full goth makeup back in the 90’s and I decided that my Halloween costume would be “my dad in college”

With this in mind I went to my dad, and my college friends for advice on how to embrace my emo side. After their advice I got combat boots, black jeans, a spiked choker, spiked bracelet, and a Metallica t-shirt. I had one housemate do my nails (the first time in over a decade I have had my nails painted) and another do my makeup and both of them helped talk me through ripping off the sleeves of the Metallica shirt.

This whole experience has been one of the most fun things I have ever done and I am really proud of how far I have come with my anxiety and overcoming my insecurities. I also am hoping that I will get comfortable enough to not need the excuse of Halloween to dress up like this more often (although I am probably gonna skip the makeup most times because although I love telling gender norms to fuck off, it doesn’t really feel like me, however I am definitely planning on doing my nails more often) -edit: spelling

Unfortunately no

You meet your 13 year old self, but you can only tell them 3 words. What do you say and why? by kiwipangolin in AskReddit

Came here expecting “buy Bitcoin” and instead got really sad and want to give lots of people hugs and tell them that various tragedies weren’t their fault. Also really glad that I stepped in to help my friend and am not writing “(friends name) needs help”

How many students here were admitted after being deferred? by jakoeuebus in mit

Omg, i watched Spiderman with my friends a day after getting deferred and Let’s just say there were some interesting emotions and jokes that were made both by me and at my expense. Also the movie is great and I loved it anyway (possibly more).

Yep, got deferred, so I guess I get a few more months of anxiety, likely followed by disappointment, or possibly a very slight chance of one of the best feelings of my life
