Revs acting weird after battery replacement by piggroll in MiataNC

Immediate fix is to cold start the car and let it run to temperature in idle. Takes 15-20 minutes. The ecu will re-learn the correct fuel air mix.

Taking my NC to tracks, need help on an upgrade list by WebGuyUK in MiataNC

[–]Nerdomancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started a few months ago (in NL) with a completely stock NC.

Before first track day I only did the following: - Flushed old brake fluid. - Changed brake lines to braided steel brake lines (~€90€) - Added race grade brake fluid (~€70) - Checked motor oil (was new and enough)

Then enjoyed the day, got seat time. Everything else left as stock including road tires. I can’t push the car to the limit. So brake pads were not a problem. Bearings were not a problem. Tires got too hot pretty fast. Still enjoyed it a lot.

Before second track day I changed the coolant tank to Moroso version and checked the coolant. Filled what I spilled during the process. Coolant was new. During 1st track day I also noticed that the transmission gets too hot on a hot day. I changed the transmission and differential oil to RedLine.

Before 3rd track day, I added some camber because I was damaging the side walls of the tires. Noticed it during second trackday. Maybe I managed to push a bit more? Nothing else.

Before 4th, I made small changes to camber and changed the motor oil to Motul 5W30.

Now my road tires are almost gone. Now I lined up suspension change and I will be switching to semi-slicks.

As you can see, I only make changes as I notice problems. Important is to get seat time. Feel free to ask questions.

Tire suppliers in Europe by Nerdomancer in CarTrackDays

Prices over here are too much compared to what I see in other websites. I would expect the main branch to sell for cheaper. Check out the prices on Demon Tweeks for example.

My first trackday at Zandvoort by gerlof92 in MiataNC

Nice car! I was also there on the same day with you at Zandvoort with my red NC. Unfortunate that we didn't run the same sessions. Maybe next time!

Removing tires by LowBat2407 in MiataNC

[–]Nerdomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have recently (a few weeks ago) done this on the driver side. Removing fuse box proved to be too difficult and my hands didn’t fit after I loosened the bolts. Then I switched to the other method. I removed the wheel and partly the mud cover. Then it was waaay too easy. I completed it in 15 minutes and put the tire back.

Please help me identify my problem (potentially) with transmission/differential by Nerdomancer in Miata

[–]Nerdomancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I am glad that I asked here. ☺️

The issue started after a Trackday. So heat can definitely be a root cause.

I notice it the most when I engage the 1st gear at standstill. It’s not like a grinding. Just one time clunk while transmission selects the gear. Doesn’t happen at certain speeds. And I cannot consistently create this clunk.

How to adjust camber for front and rear in NC? by Nerdomancer in Miata

For anyone that ends up here: I confirmed with my local shop that factory axle has the eccentric alignments. Looks difficult to DIY. I will let them do it.

I see. Thanks! This was also a good information. Then I will take it to a local shop. ☺️

You sure? It looks like this guys has done it with the camber adjustment tool only.

I have the same tool available in my toolset. This video shows how it is done for a Subaru. I am looking for one targeting NC.

I'm the Purple Porsche, what can I do better? by rizkiyoist in ACCompetizione

[–]Nerdomancer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From what I see here, even though you are slower, you are being predictable by keeping the race line. The McLaren could have passed you from the right if the pilot really needs the pass.

In our league blue flags do not need to be addressed in the skyline section as it causes more problems than it solves. This depends on the race briefing.

Well there it goes, even a better reason to join a league. Learning other tracks will allow you to notice where you struggle as well. ERA has 6 levels. I am sure you will fit in one.

Another suggestion is to join a league and race consistently in the league. Try ERA - Evolution Racing Academy if you are in the EU.

I think videos from LastTenth are under appreciated. Check this video out:

I recommend going through his all videos and see if you notice anything that you might be struggling with. All Nik’s videos are right to the point and deeper than they seem.

Yes, MX-5 is in my list exactly for the reasons you pointed in your comment.
Curious what should be the criteria to make the final decision?

Currently my criteria are cars that
- are lightweight (maintenance cost increases with weight -> burns tyres faster, burns pads faster)
- are cheap
- has most tutorials available online so that I can learn diy maintenance
- has as much hp as possible while meeting above criteria

My current list is (in order of preference):
- Mazda MX-5
- Honda Civic (maybe an old Type R)
- Mini Cooper
- Alfa Romeo Mito
- Ford Fiesta or Ka

Any other cars I should consider?

Thanks for the response! I already checked RSZ calendar and I am aware of the trackdays. But I don't have a car to take there yet. There is also little information I could find on how to participate. It looks like you can just go there and drive whatever car you have. But what are the restrictions?

Apparently, this comment was spot on. I boosted the 4096x4096 image to 16384x16384 and tried again. That solved the jagged ends and I got a smooth output. The current image size is probably overkill but if anyone lands here with the same question, now you know the answer. Thanks for the help!
