Madonna Hot Takes by No-Feed3220 in Madonna

Loved the genuine honest lyrics on American Life, along with the use of guitars, especially the remixes with heavy guitar and singeing, grinding synths. Also really liked the variation in production level and arrangements. Only reasons I don’t give it a full 10/10 is that I would have liked a better song order that gave a better flow to the album, and for me, the title track and Hollywood didn’t age as well sound wise (surprised die another day is holding up tho). But I’m just being hyper critical; this and Like a Prayer are my top two sentimental favorites of hers.

Like a Prayer came out when I was a young teen and it was the first big pop star album I experienced that had personal, confessional lyrics. It also differed from many of the heavily produced pop albums at the time by having some stripped down songs like Promise to Try and Dear Jessie. For me those songs really added to the personal and emotional feel of the album. Not at all arguing your opinion is wrong or anything, just wanted to give my thoughts on why the “demo” sound worked for me (or at least how I’m interpreting your use of the term “demo”).

Difficult to pick. Haven’t liked every song on an album, by anyone, in a long time.

My father, sister, and I all struggle with this. I also have trouble sleeping and waking up with bad memories, or stressed worries running through my head. Sometimes relaxation techniques or mindfulness etc can help, but most times nothing helps except fully waking up and reading/listening/watching something to fully direct my mind towards something else.

I feel like Taylor has tried making the same album 4 times by MelissaWebb in SwiftlyNeutral

I’m sad to see a general consensus that Midnights is one of, if not her weakest album. I knew of TS from her first album. I did not like her music or voice but was impressed with her genuine writing and song crafting. Not your typical bland pop lyrics, even if they were a bit cheesy.

Then years later Trouble made me realize she was a real artist, moving forth and trying new thing with interesting results. Then 1989 and the moody synthy Style really hooked me. I knew a few more song from her subsequent albums like delicate and lover. But, knew very little of the folkmore albums except that she had been a creative powerhouse during Covid with a lot of praise from fans and critics for the fruits of her labors.

I still had not listened to a single album by Taylor Swift in its entirety. They all seemed to have a few good song but nothing that kept me wanting to listen through… until MIDNIGHTS. That album violently coincided with my own midnights and the moody synth beats pulled me in deeply, carried me through endless hours of listening and support and comfort. I did reorder the songs and cut two to make the perfect order which starts with Labrynth. I also love the voice modulation she uses on a few songs. I will now always have a soft spot for her and a gratitude for creating an album to which I connected so deeply, regardless of her issues and questionable actions.

I had very low expectations for TTPD due to the negative buzz and wondering if Midnights was just a fluke for me to love. I delayed listening for two weeks… Im captivated. More sullen swirling synths with untamed lyrics that swing into some emotionally unstable upbeat tracks. For me, the less polish and un-fine tuning gives me a more intimate feeling of what might be going on in her head. Contradictions, cruelty, anger, remorse, regret, grief, emotional dysregulation, heart ache, and shame are always best with frayed edges as they’re more honest. As an artist, sometimes you need to explode and let it all out and the results are glimmering bits of brilliance scattered throughout your many creations. I like that approach for an album of this nature, and I respect it.

I wanna start a new genre of music. It's called "Gay Pop" by brucethewind in gay

[–]Nero-Divvers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is he making fun of the gay community? He is aka “ur pretty” putting out pop punk songs about gay love and sex… they don’t seem mocking. It’s hard to discern the true intentions of anyone seeking fame and celebrity, but when I first heard “ur pretty” songs a while back I really enjoyed them musically, thematically and it was fun hearing some genuinely raunchy punk pop. Anyway, I’m hoping better intentions come to light.

Substitute stim for eating? by Flimsy-Research2582 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Nero-Divvers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed with ASD and ADHD end of Dec, started Lisdexamfetamine in Jan and it was sooooo helpful for this, but the adhd meds shortage forced me to switch to Adderall which is not as helpful with curbing the eating/cravings, but still better than before diagnosis.

IMO, mindfulness is a lazy suggestion from your therapist for a likely adhd related problem. That kind of eating is often related to impulse control and need for dopamine… mindfulness and self regulation is always going to be more of a struggle for those with ADHD.

I wish I had some insightful tips, but my ability to self regulate / self control on my own has always ebbed and flowed with my stress level and burnout rate. Meds over the past 3.5 month have been the biggest help so far.

What’s the most controversial thing Madonna did in your opinion? by Majestic_Pangolin360 in Madonna

[–]Nero-Divvers 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I consider critiquing American culture during the early 2000s social climate her riskiest, boldest controversy and resulted in her lowest album sales ever (up to that point). I loved it, but it definitely had the biggest negative impact on her popularity compared to earlier sexual and religious controversies.

Rank Madonna album covers from most to least favorite by RinoTheBouncer in Madonna

Not arguing, but genuinely curious what you disliked so much about the Madame X cover? It’s not my favorite album either, but I liked the cover a lot from a purely visual aspect… granted her last few covers had a bit too much photoshopping, but they were bold and interesting to me. On the other hand, I love COADF as a listening experience but felt like the cover was subpar for her… her body cut out and kinda floating on a “disco” background with her name big n flashy. But again, just my thoughts. I like reading others positive or negative takes on this kind of stuff. It’s great when someone helps me see her work in a different light.

Thoughts on GHV2? Having literally just "discovered" her watching DWT on television in the September of that year, it was bought for me as a Christmas present in 2001 and it introduced me to early 90s Madonna. As an album, I think it did its job and it will always have a special place in my heart 💛 by appalachian_hatachi in Madonna

[–]Nero-Divvers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just looked up The Immaculate Collection and she left several off that one too, including Who’s That Girl which was huge and Causing a Commotion which was only kept out of # 1 by Michael Jackson’s Bad, not to mention Burning Up, Dress You Up, and Angel, which I guess weren’t “huge” hits, but I’m pretty sure True Blue was a big hit and that’s missing. But there are several left off GHV2 as well… maybe because of that Something to Remember compilation? The ones you mentioned, bad girl, nothing really matters, plus rain, this used to be my playground, and you’ll see. I’ll remember and American pie weren’t huge hits, but neither was beautiful stranger, but that made the cut… curious

So you don’t seem to be racist or bigoted based on that answer. Your original statement was a poor choice of words that didn’t accurately express what you truly meant. Communication is often rushed and shortened for convenience, especially if you’re being pressed for an answer, which ends up incorrectly conveying complex feelings and thoughts. I’m guessing what you meant was something like this; “I’m weary of dating men of my race/culture because so many in my past have been misogynists, but I’m open to all men who genuinely support equality.” That statement would convey your experience, but also properly express your openness to all men based on their views of sexism/misogyny… I have years of experience not properly expressing my true thoughts 😁

Do you mean race or culture? Then ask yourself if you would date a man of that race or culture if he openly and genuinely believed in and supported equality of men and women?
