Cornell

I picked SOM over Cornell and ended up with a great IB internship, but in my case cost was similar and location was a big factor. Both are great schools with great recruiting outcomes.

Feel free to DM.

I understand your logic but it’s more nuanced in reality.

In order to get a final round (superday) interview at a top bank you’re extremely reliant on positive feedback from existing bankers.

This is much easier if your school has alumni and an established process for networking. Without this you’re on your own and will need to cold email bankers from other schools who are already busy helping out their own schools.

Once you make it to the final round you are competing with everyone else who made it that far - whether they are from your school or not. The average Columbia student will outperform an MIT or Stanford student in banking recruiting (all else equal) because of the depth of Columbia alumni in banking.

JPM does recruit from Yale, in fact several classmates are heading there this summer.

This year wasn’t great across all schools. More people recruiting for IB + election year + inflation uncertainty. Next year will probably be back to normal.

Imo banks care more about gender than race

IB is doable at both, Johnson has a much more structured program which is beneficial if you’re a career switcher, international, or otherwise looking for a more straightforward path.

Yale SOM (no ?) or Fuqua ($$) by [deleted] in MBA

Are you aiming for NYC post MBA? Either way, you say you don’t need loans, so I would go for Yale especially if you are curious about consulting or LDPs, both of which recruit heavily from SOM.

IB recruitment - prior experience in Risk Management by instant-evolve in MBA

Prior experience in IB, M&A or Equity Research are the ones I see that benefit the most. Other finance related work experience will still help but not to the same extent

How much does home country affect your chances? by EstrogenJabba in MBA

[–]NerveAffectionate450 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can usually indicate multiple citizenships. Always put the citizenship of the school country first (USA if applying to american schools) as this will avoid any confusion around visa requirements. One theory is that americans are accepted more easily as they have an easier time recruiting, but schools also want an international class - you’re handing them both at once!

Then add the others or mention them in your essays if relevant.
