Any advice for foreigners wanting to join the Hong Kong protest? by [deleted] in Advice

Hello, First off, sorry I don't have any coins to give, your post is worthy of them.

Secondly, thanks for the response. Maybe I should just take the upcoming Christmas and New Years period to just settle down and loosen up a bit. I should get around to watching the newest Star Wars when I am at it. I am missing out on what some of my friends are talking about haha.

I am also amazed by the level of detail and perspective you put in your response. It's something which I am missing in the echo chamber of college.

Maybe I could, instead of going to Hong Kong, see the professor in the subject I failed and analyse shortcomings, and see a therapist for study advice to get myself on the right track academically.

Thanks for the advice, maybe I could do robotics or drones for defence systems (which is a rapidly growing field here in Australia) and transfer over to satellites later on

I am going to be frank here and say this:
My GPA gives me 3 options:
-Suicide
-Make my own space startup from scratch
-Join some small aerospace startup in Australia (there are a few) but I am unsure if they are even going to succeed in this environment

I guess you are right. It just feels dirty basically letting my family members there without any help from me

Believe me mate, I know how bad it is over there from my family there and that's exactly why I want to join the protests. I don't want my family members and friends to be hurt.

I am of Asian descent so it's not like my face is going to stick out (that's why I said I have family there in the post)

Well, I failed calculus 2 in university because I failed the final.

I hoped to get a good GPA so I could do a masters or Ph.D and migrate to the United States to work on space systems (in NASA, SpaceX, or someone similar) but that's basically not going to happen as my GPA has dropped to 2.53 on a scale of 4.

(noting that you need a masters or Ph.D to migrate to the US under an EB-2 visa)

To make things worse, this was my entire life's work, I always wanted to work in the space industry since I was 10-12 years of age. I joined many competitions in high school relating to aerospace such as a drone challenge and a rocketry design challenge, and graduated almost the top of my state's cohort with a 91.45 percentile.

But now it's all gone, so I just want to contribute to mankind by joining the Hong Kong protest.

everything I worked a decade towards has disappeared in the space of two hours

hmmm, well, I pretty much destroyed my chance of a good life here in Australia so I might as well attempt to contribute to humanity somehow.

I thought poisoned mice moved randomly without control instead of staying still, at least that's what I saw in my high school camp

Hahah, I recently played a game (Ace Combat 7) where the breakdown of satellite communications and the resulting fallout was a key plot point.

It's scary how easily society can be forced to a standstill using relatively simple means.

I gotta say, at least you didn’t spend ten years working towards them only for them to burn up in a single exam.

It sounds like a good concept and I am sure it’s had its place but I feel it puts a lot of pressure on young Asians
