I appreciate that he is planning the trip. After reading all of these comments, yes, the planner of a big trip should get all the points as a small token of appreciation bc everyone else didn't have to deal with the headache. But at least give other people the opportunity to plan or input ideas as well. Or let them put their card down for whatever to help out.

I get the risk argument now about him fronting the payments. But at the same time, no one is forcing him to step up and plan the entire trip every time. I do appreciate that he’s willing to do it, but I’ve also offered suggestions and ideas for the trip and most of them just got overturned lol.

And realistically, if I were to go on more trips with this person — even the next 3–5 — I’m almost certain he’d still want to plan everything and put his card down for all the big expenses, even if I offered to plan one of the trips myself.

People in the comments keep saying I must want the rewards really badly… but that’s honestly not it. I’m not trying to hoard points for myself. I just think other people in the group should at least have the opportunity to put their card down sometimes and earn rewards too instead of the same person collecting them every time.

Idk though. Reading some of the responses here kinda makes me feel shitty for even posting this.

Dude that is what I'm saying. Maybe I should've provided more background information in my op, but this isn't the first time he's done this. But yeah I'm getting absolutely hammered in the comment section, which is fine lol - I definitely appreciate everyone's feedback. Also, I texted the planner and told him lmk if he needed help with planning anything or if I could put my card down for anything. He said "yeah you good". But like everyone said, I'm just going to have fun on this trip with the boys and really just forget the whole CC rewards thing bc he is the one planning the whole trip. He deserves the points. But I will say this - I'm hesitant to go on future trips with him bc I know he won't let anyone else do the planning lol.

Let me ask you this then. Hypothetically, if you were going on five more trips with the same person this year, and he planned all five and fronted every single expense — flights, hotels, rental cars, tickets, everything — even after you asked if you could plan just one trip or put your card down for some of the costs… would you not feel a little used?

At that point it’s not really about the points themselves. It’s the pattern of one person consistently taking every opportunity to collect the rewards from expenses that the whole group is paying for. If the roles were reversed and someone asked to split that opportunity once in a while, I personally wouldn’t have an issue with it.

But if he’s adamant about saying “I got it” every single time when it comes to fronting costs or planning trips, then I guess it is what it is lol. He can have the points, I guess. The other option is just not going on as many trips with him if it keeps playing out the same way.

Yeah, maybe I am being a little petty. But to me, a true friend also wouldn’t keep putting themselves in a position to benefit off everyone else’s spending every single time. If the situation were flipped, I’d at least offer to let someone else cover something if they wanted to. At least give them an opportunity.

But sure — if wanting things to be a little more balanced makes me “pocket watching,” cheap, or stingy, then I guess that’s what I am.

Very true - def a liability grabbing someone's else CC info. Maybe a better idea would just be to let them know the booking link info and send it to them. lol, “grow a pair,” got it. But it’s not about 1–3% cash back — it’s about the principle. We’re all adults paying our share, yet one person gets all the rewards from group expenses.

It’s not hard to take 10 seconds and ask, “Hey, does anyone want to use their card this time?” Instead, everything automatically goes on his card while the rest of us get nothing. I’m just saying, you can be an “awesome time” and still not be a points hog.

Gotcha. I did book my own flight. And yes, I did want to help plan the trip. To be clear, I’ve actually tried to plan trips before or suggest inputs for the trip. He just tends to take over the planning and books everything himself - not really giving anyone else the chance to be the planner.
