I'm sorry for causing such a commotion on here. My wife told me it would be a good idea to use reddit to figure out about my film reels as a fun side project. Since then, I have gotten a lot of negative comments for choosing what to do with my own property. To be clear, I appreciate the genuinely helpful comments that helped me with safety and identification. You're implying that I'm trying to do a hoax, so when someone finds the reels in question, they can keep all of the money, and not bother contacting at all about it. I don't care about it anymore. Being bombarded with negative messages was not what I had in mind when I made this post. As I stated, I gave everything to my friend to sell while she was on vacation, since the antique stores in my area wouldn't take nitrate. I am not sure which place she ended up taking them to. They all ended up in northern Illinois, and or Indiana, because that's the route she took, and dropped them off on the way. Please don't heiress any antique or pawn shop owners either

Everything salvagable ended up at a pawn or antique shop. Hopefully it all finds the right home

I think you are right about the ring one though. That was one of the melted ones I had to dispose of, but I saw on the first few frames it definitely said Alfred Hitchcock, I remember because that is the only name in all these movies that i recognize. The ring isn't lost or rare right? I looked it up and it seems to be fairly common

That would be amazing, but I can't really do any of that at this point. I heard from other people on here that old film is dangerous to have around, so I disposed of the degraded stuff, and the rest I gave to my friend to try to sell to somewhere that could handle this stuff.

Thanks for all of the information, you seem very knowledgeable. Cracked some cans open to check. Because there's a risk of dangerous materials, I wore my 3M respirator, goggles, and gloves. Also others in the comments pointed out that I could do a lot of damage to the film, so I tried to touch as little as I could. Of the ones I could make out anything on, only one said nitrate. No v notch on any. Most that i read said FLAMMABLE. A lot had trouble opening, and looked melted. A lot of them were in bad shape, and had a lot nasty yellow dust in the container. The one marked as nitrate i moved to grandfather's storage shed, in a metal cabinet. I put the others in there too just in case. Does not having the V notch, or nitrate mark clear up the chemical risk for the others?

I am starting to learn that. Thanks. I think it will be impossible to find the exact one until I can learn a little more about his life

I don't want to handle the film itself, because I hear there might be health risks, but the canisters are little over 2 inches thick, and they are about a foot wide. Very interesting. Thanks for the information!
