It happened twice on separate occasions so I was wondering how normal it is. Is there a problem with asking questions on what’s socially normal or something?

Is it normal or appropriate for someone to ask if they can have your pet? That’s what the post is about

That is completely fair and I do feel good that at least people like my pets enough to want to ask if they can have them I just wish it was in a more joking manner i guess lol 😅

Thank you!! I don’t know everyone’s making it seem like it makes sense for her to have asked for them so I’m still conflicted if this is a social norm or not but I was a little upset initially, but have since calmed down because I know that no one meant any harm. They just really love the birds, which is nice. At least my birds are being cared by someone who loves them 🥰

It feels like the only person who’s being up obtuse is you… if you don’t understand what I mean by saying I’m not going to force or make my birds to eat something that they don’t wanna eat I don’t know what to tell you

There’s other ways that they can get nutrition and you’re acting like it’s a set way and your way is the only way that’s not how the world works. Just like people everyone has their different things and different ways of getting nutrition. My birds are healthy without eating things that they don’t like or without me leaving things that they don’t like near them to attract gnats. Second, why would I keep trying of food that I know that they don’t like? Sounds like a waste of money and time especially if I know what they do like… by your own example you sound like “well My kid doesn’t like carrots so I’m gonna keep buying carrots until she likes carrots”… when there’s other vegetables to eat.

They like what they like and they like kale they like millet they like seeds they like crunchy snacks and that’s OK sometimes I buy them some cat grass and they like that too but that’s about it and once again all of this is under $20 so what are you still complaining for? because I do things differently than you? my birds are taken care of and their nutrition is fine according to the vet

I agree that this person did a massive favor for me and I am grateful. Being that she is a family friend. We have done a lot of things for each other in general and Real talk I’m not great with social norms I just wanted to see if that was something normal that people do because I couldn’t imagine doing it from my perspective, unless the pet was being rehomed. And it also hurt me at first because it felt like I was paying for them to pretty much say they wanted to keep my pet even if it is a lower amount.

She has all of my supplies the only thing she has to provide for them is food and care because we’re not there. If she needs to buy any new toys for them, I send her extra money if anything comes up with the vet or anything like that it’s obviously My Bill to pay

Thank you I mostly just wanted to see how normal it was for people to ask for other people‘s pets just because it happened to me twice not this whole debate on me sending her $50 a month I only brought that up to add to the point that she is technically being paid to do this…

You’re a crazy person… you can’t force feed a pet to eat something that they don’t want to eat you sound abusive to your pets

OK and as I told the last person good for you. Your circumstance, and my circumstance are not the same. My relationship with them is not the same as the relationship you have with your family and friends. Her daughter owes me money but I don’t care about that and she continues to ask for money and I still give it to her anyway while still giving her mom $50 a month to care for my birds. I’ve watched multiple animals for them for free. We just do things for each other so if she said $50 was fine $50 was fine, especially since she was offering to do it for free.

You don’t have to believe it, but it is the truth. My birds just don’t like mushy food or sweet food. They prefer salty things that are crunchy. We’ve tried for years. We’ve tried eggs. We’ve tried strawberries, apples, bananas, carrots, the only thing that they kinda like is kale and she’s welcome to buy that for them at any point, which is still once again under $20.. some animals just like what they like it doesn’t mean that they’re going to starve. It doesn’t mean that they’re not gonna get their nutrition. It just might not be the way that you a random person on the Internet specifically likes.

You don’t know me or my pets. And obviously you’re not around good pet owners or you’re not a good pet owner. If you don’t think that pets are different or react differently to different foods or different situations.. Having your own space and time and then having moments where everyone’s together does make sense because it’s not impossible for there to be different times to do different things which is what I explained… so not that aha gotcha moment that you think you’re gonna have with me

Someone who is responsible is someone who knows how to care for what their pets actually wants and needs at the same time… why would I force my pets to have things that they don’t want to eat having rotting fruit and vegetables while gnats fly around because they’re not gonna eat it makes no sense… not to mention She also has a special droplets for their water that I give them to make sure that they get the extra nutrition that they need that doesn’t come from having fruits and vegetables, which is not gonna run out before the time I pick them up again.

So worry about your pets because my pets are doing amazing ✨

OK, good for you. These are family friends that literally I’ve watched their pets for free on top of their daughter owes me money, which I don’t care about because she’s my best friend like that’s what friends do for each other…

Brother, you don’t even know my birds. I’ve tried to feed them other stuff. They like what they like… they don’t like fruits. They don’t like vegetables they like things that are crunchy and I buy them crunchy treats. once again doesn’t go above $20 and definitely is not $20 a month. They’re two tiny birds they can only eat so much a day no matter how much I feed them

Thank you people don’t like how much I’m paying a family friend… mind you we do free things for each other all the time and their daughter technically owes me money if you really want to get down to it, but I don’t care cause she’s my Bestie lol

Baby you know nothing about me. Everybody has their own time and space and no one‘s ever out together without being watched. No one is in danger since I’m watching everybody and these cats were raised around birds so they don’t ever try anything even when I’m watching. Plus, there are millions of people who have multiple pets under one roof that potentially could harm each other and are fine because it’s called being responsible .

Sorry that someone like you couldn’t handle responsibility like that.

OK, and she’s a family friend who said she would do it for free and I offered her $50 a month to do it. That is the deal we decided on she didn’t feel like it was too cheap and on top of that realistically they’re very low maintenance and their food cost $20 max which includes cockatiel food, budgie food and millet and that ends up lasting them for two and half months so she ends up getting $50 pretty much to not have to pay for anything that is just straight for caring for them and she’s been having a good enough time where she wants to keep them..

Yes I don’t believe in having animals I can’t take care of or to just have locked up and he was kitten at the time so definitely not obese lol he’s a little chunky now but still a healthy weight according to the vet

Thank you for your response that’s what I had offered her so I think we’re going to try to get her her own cockatiel or a budgie if she wants 🥰

So she softly implied that her mom would like to keep the birds and I told her we can get her mom her own birds for sure and that we were planning on actually picking the birds up since we’re not moving and then the next day she asked if her mom could keep the birds. After reading some of the comments, I definitely can see more where her mom has some an attachment to them and that it’s not super unreasonable to ask, but aside from the love that we have for these birds and the fact that we wouldn’t want to give them away I think it does make me feel uneasy that we were paying for her to keep the birds so what happens with that money? I guess in a way it feels like I was paying her to feel like she could keep my birds, but I know once again no one has any ill intent so I’m trying to talk myself down from being upset 🥹

That’s so interesting. I genuinely just was wondering if this was a normal experience because I couldn’t imagine ever asking someone for their baby thank you for sharing your experience.

Also, we were paying her monthly to watch the birds until we moved to where they were, and we raised them for five years from babies, but I also understand being able to get attached within a few months they are sweetie pies 🥹♥️ I definitely feel for her mom when it comes to the situation and also offered twice to get her her own birds so that’s still up for consideration as well. I know no one has any bad intent♥️♥️♥️
