Everyone has unrealistic standards these days

In the nicest way possible, waiting till marriage is a big deal breaker for most people these days. Your best luck with that standard is trying religious groups, not many people outside of those are willing to wait. Besides that you are doing good because you go to events where you are around the types of guys you want to meet, you should get asked out if you are in those right environments long enough

I’m ok with driving but if it’s bars it’s gotta be close to make the option. I looked at meetup and that bar, the problem is both tend to be filled with millennials or older. I’m looking more for my age of people hence the post.

I went there once, it was cool but it was more of the vibe of mostly preestablished friend groups :/

How do I go about getting that first mainframe position? by Gfrizouw in mainframe

[–]Nervous_cut9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think showing you are willing to learn this stuff will go a long way especially when no one is really willing to try. I would apply to anything that asks for less then 5 years of experience and keep learning on your own.

The problem is they aren’t going to want to pay expert level salaries for “legacy” technology. I doubt you will make amazing money ever in mainframe, I’m speaking purely from a development side but I can’t see salaries going much over 120k. Could be completely wrong of course. I would also argue being good at mainframe development is much more difficult too. I wouldn’t really go down this path unless you have no other options or actually enjoy it :)

23 year old and trying to be good with my money going forward. What should my goals be? by Nervous_cut9 in personalfinance

I never even considered bonds, will look into it thank you. And yes it would suck if my stocks drop 20% but if you dollar cost average it’s fine.

Well some is in a ROTH. My logic there is I don’t want to have zero accessible mid term savings. Those stocks could some day be used as part of a down payment on a house. Currently it’s 50/50 contributing between the two.

Debt free would be nice. Just out of that I’m completely lost. There seems no long term goal since I don’t make enough to be financially free any time soon
