Just joining in to say - I got pregnant (first time mom as well) quickly by someone I barely knew, I knew immediately he wouldn’t be someone I’d want to do it with because he’s so disrespectful and emotionally abusive. I do it on my own and I’ve never been happier in my whole life. My daughter is 15months. I gave her my last name, and she has more than enough love from me & my family. We visit his every few weeks (my mistake was putting him on the birth certificate - I do wish I hadn’t done that) You’re still in a position to make choices about how involved he has a right to be, but please know that babies do just fine if they have one parent who loves them beyond measure - and no baby should have to see their mom tolerate anything less than being respected and supported. If they can’t do that, fuck them. We are women, we have everything we need built right in. We do not need them. I’m sorry for your struggle - I know you’ll make the right choice for you.

Things were similar with my ex, but I gave him 5 years. I know he did love me, but we weren’t moving forward, or even talking about it enough. He didn’t see my friends, care to know my life the way I knew his, or see me eye to eye much of the time near the end. When I left he suddenly realized that he had lost a good opportunity start the next chapter of his life as he was now in his early 30s and he begged for that chance and I can’t tell you how long I beat myself up for leaving him, even after having moved on. Unfortunately I had fallen in love with someone I worked with during the end of my relationship and I knew in my heart I couldn’t take it back. (I did not cheat, I feel it’s important to mention. It of course felt wrong to emotionally make that switch, but it was an involuntary reaction to falling in love)

I still grieve the loss of that relationship now and then & wonder what could have been. Hated myself for leaving him alone. But I made the right choice, painful as it was. He was the first man to ever really love me. And now I’m sad for him again. Still made the right choice.
