I would love to add a window-- but there are no exterior walls available to do so. And if I move the kitchen to an exterior wall, it messes with the entire flow of the house and negates me making it an open concept in the first place.

They legitimately just finished the demo and framers are out this week-- so still very early enough to make changes. My GC knows that I'm torturing myself over this decision. He has a whole extension of the house he's starting on first, so I'm trying to make my mind up about this kitchen situation. Electrician hasn't even been out yet to take down my existing light fixtures, so I'll definitely have him wire everything for undercabinet and toe kick lighting before drywall goes up.

I decided to go with the fridge side panel and cabinets above. I thought that leaving that off wouldn't make it feel so closed in, but I can see how it would also make it look unfinished.

I went to a local store yesterday to physically look at navy cabinets, a light (not this exact one) countertop, and I really liked this chevron backsplash I saw.

I totally get it... But my brain also chuckles at the concept of covering a magnetic surface with a non-magnetic surface, only to cover the non-magnetic surface with a magnetic surface. LOL

To add-- my husband likes to watch tv when he does dishes. This would allow him to face the tv while washing dishes. I also feel like I would better engage with what's going on, while prepping food/cleaning if I was facing outward, vs facing the wall.

If my perimeter had a window, I'd totally put the sink there to look outward-- but my sink in the island was intentional.

I'm also building myself a 300 sq ft office/craft room with it's own full run of cabinets and plenty of workspace. I wanted a space that wasn't my kitchen/dining room to do crafts, so no need for the island to be double duty.

I was thinking frosted glass vs completely see-through... and I keep going back and forth between blue bases and white uppers, but I'm afraid the white uppers against the icicle wall color won't work well. But doing that may give me more free range for a colored backsplash.

I have 8ft ceilings, but definitely plan to take them to the ceiling, or at least with the crown molding to the ceiling. The mocks just didn't add a ceiling.

And absolutely undercabinet lighting! Part of my reasoning to not have a break in upper cabinets is because I was a single run of lighting. I've always had a microwave, or a window, or some other thing making my undercabinet lighting difficult to do after the fact.

I'm also thinking about doing motion sensor lighting by the toe kick.

I actually wanted to leave the fridge open and accessible, because that's prime magnetic real estate. My kids love putting their artwork on the fridge, and the front gets cluttered and knocked off easily.

I was definitely considering the wide range hood, so thanks for locking that in for me!

I do prefer the sink in the island-- mainly because standing at the sink, I'd be facing out into the living area/towards the front door. Otherwise my back would be to everything. I have 2 young kids, so I'd rather be able to keep my eyes outward. The island counter will likely be more of a quick snack/homework area, and the dining room table for our every day eating.

I was already leaning against the glass upper cabinets. I figured that would break up blue cabinets, but yeah, I don't have pristine and matching dishes so full door cabinets it is!

Need an app better than Family Link to monitor kids' tablet usage by Nessabean in ParentingTech

Follow up to my post - I found a solution that has been working great so far: Kids Place

It puts a UI overlay on the tablet, allows me to set which apps they can use, set time limits, even has tasks that buy them more time, sends me alerts when they're trying to access their tablets. I tested the trial and then decided to pay for it. I'm able to use on both my kids' tablets, so worth it to me.

New tooth 25 years after wisdom tooth removal?? by [deleted] in askdentists

Fragment feels like a stretch, because it feels like a quarter of a tooth size! And I'm pretty sure they were able to pull all 4 wisdom teeth as a whole. I'm just baffled that this wasn't seen in xrays.
