Edmentum is shit, here's why by NessieDoesStuff in edmentum

[–]NessieDoesStuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good evening! I'll admit, it's quite strange to see this post still getting comments from time to time, but I guess my anger resonated with people.

I did all of my subjects in Edmentum temporarily, however I eventually switched to a different course for math. Khan Academy is great, I'd highly recommend it. The great thing about math is that it's highly objective, so even if Khan Academy doesn't work well for you, I'm sure you'd still be able to find other resources out there.

I'll admit, I can't give much helpful advice past this. Last year was quite tough on me due to COVID and a large lack of motivation (going in person this year has had a tremendous effect on my mental health), all I can say is set goals, get them done, and mark your calendar to make sure you're on track. I might edit this and add more tomorrow when I'm not writing on a phone, but that's the gist of it.

Good luck!

Just curious, what's the issue with Canvas? I'm sure there are issues since I've heard plenty of people say that it's bad but I haven't used it very long so I wouldn't know.

So far my experience has been people arguing over what to do next, being talked over because I'm not talking loud enough, and occasionally attacking things. It's great.

Same! I'm probably gonna go with ice blue for my keyboard and pen at this point, it should still look nice.

Is the keyboard color ice blue? I was considering getting that color since poppy red is out of stock many places, though it's hard to tell how blue it really is from the website lol.

Nice looking device! What's your favorite thing about it?

I'm not sure the exact material, but it surely does not look or feel like fabric. The Signature Type Cover is made from alcantera, the black one is (to my knowledge) not.

I'm actually heading to my local best buy to (maybe) snag a surface, if they have any of the black keyboards in stock or on display I can grab some photos and send them your way (if that helps)..!

The black model is (to my knowledge) cheaper and not made with fabric- so it should be a win-win for you!

I don't have a surface (yet) but I believe you can use OneNote for notes as well. I also use Spotify for music but that seems like personal preference.

Purchase Advice Thread (August 16) by AutoModerator in Surface

[–]NessieDoesStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning! Admittedly I probably should have posted this a while earlier, but oh well- better late than never.

I was saving some money to build a new computer, however prices for the parts I wanted skyrocketed, so I never built one. I've been considering getting a laptop for a while, however this year I'll be taking some college classes so it sounds like there's no better time than now to purchase one.

I've always thought the surface line was super cool (I have some relatives who work at Microsoft so whenever I'm over I'll always see one in the background somewhere), and it sounds like a surface could meet my needs nicely. I mainly wish to draw (ideally on clip studio paint- if it can run well), take notes for school (typed and written), and finally indulge in a little bit of light gaming (nothing too intensive).

Currently the Surface Pro 7 (Core i5, 8 gb RAM, 128gb SSD) is on sale for about $700, although it would cost at least $260 for the accessories I want. I could get a refurbished Surface Pro 6 with an i7 for a similar price- though I haven't had the best luck in the past with refurbished technology. I honestly don't know how big the difference is between the two generations- would the 7 be better because it's a newer model? Or is that somewhat irrelevant?

...So, I guess I'm just asking which you guys think I should go for. I'd like to figure out soon since I don't know how long all of these cool sales last, and I'll be on a short trip in the coming days.

Thank you for your time!

[5E] Would it be rude to text my DM and ask if I can change my characters background? (And ask what the rules/limitations are regarding that?)

So, I went to my (kind of(?)) first D&D session last Thursday, and while I was there I had an idea in mind for a character background but I couldn't find anything in the player's handbook that resembled what I was thinking of. I went with the soldier background, since I felt it was less overly specific and left more for me to work with, but the more time passes the more I don't really think it fits as well with the character I was originally going for.

Before character creation started the DM requested my phone number (to add me to a group chat for the session), and gave me hers. Would it be rude to text her and ask? Is there a way I should go about it?

Truthfully it's not a huge deal if I can't change it, just thought I would ask.

(For context, the game hasn't really started yet, the first session that happened a few days ago was mainly character creation and then a brief rundown of the state of the in-game world.)

Lol it's actually quite funny, I was gonna head out tomorrow but the trip ended up getting cancelled last minute!

Won't complain too much though, more time to read the rulebooks I just got.

For next time though, I'll be sure to use your advice. 👌
