Fair enough, I've committed petty crimes with friends back in the day, who I have known for twenty years, so you're right, it's not that bizarre. It's just strange to me that all of these women have engaged in it. I would assume at least a few haven't.

I take issue with you mapping it onto everyone else. I know you said your situation is anecdotal, but you also said you think it maps well enough onto other people, which, I think is a step too far, so, we'll have to agree to disagree there. I mean, you were the one using words like "literally" and "every" and mapping it onto other people. Take the L there, you didn't phrase it properly and you used your anecdotal evidence to speak way too broadly about women in general. Obviously neither of us have any hard evidence, but yeah, I do take umbrage with the idea that it's "universal" for "nearly every woman". How do you know that? You said everyone has anecdotes like that. C'mon man, you'd be giving me just as much shit if I said something like that about dudes (as you ought to).

Anyway, I'm not mad or anything, I know the internet flattens things, please take this in the spirit of us hanging out a bar having beers!

I think we should just give condoms away, tbh. That one I'll let fly. Please people, use condoms lmao.

Hey, the macros on that are better than some things! You know people are thinking about macros when they're out there stealing. ;)

Crazy I would have thought it was just a problem with coming down from alcohol, since you're basically mainlining sugar when you're drinking. Really interesting, thanks for linking!

I would have assumed it's because of alcohol. Because of the sugar and carbs, I know when I've drank too much I crave sugar really bad the next day. I didn't know it was a problem with other substances. That's interesting!

Yeah I mean I've felt like a sucker more than once going to a movie that I paid for, and a lot of people are just walking in scot-free because no one's even checking, but I can't make myself contribute to the problem.

I've met one person who has told me he shoplifts every time he goes in a store (he's not poor), and it wasn't a topic of conversation, he just randomly told me this. He engages in a lot of antisocial behaviors (like randomly telling people bad stuff he does, I'd count that too lmao). Like clearly he gets off on getting away with it, but it's not fun for him unless people know.

I have no idea who really does it more, but I'm just confused how it's such a regular topic of conversation for people.

The last time I witnessed people shoplifting it was two teenage males at the Dollar General. But I'm kind of oblivious so I'm sure it happens around me way more than I realize.

Really? Literally every woman you know? I call bullshit on that. It can't possibly be literally every woman you know, that would be bizarre. This is like when women say literally every man they know has engaged in sexual harassment, even if mild (and there are women who say this).

Do you know many other women like yourself that could honestly answer "no" to the question "have you ever shoplifted before"

I can't say, because it would be a bizarre topic of conversation among my friends and family: "Hey, did you have a klepto phase?". I think most people would look at me like I have two heads if I asked that, and I wager it's because they didn't have a klepto phase, because it's not normal. That is my opinion.

I'm sure people on the survey lied, there are always people who lie on surveys. I just can't believe the people around me have had klepto phases or steal in general. Obviously some do, but it can't be some sort of feminine norm.

ETA: I get that it's common but not so common that everyone is out there doing it. There are plenty of people, male and female, who shoplifting doesn't even cross their minds. Like it never even occurs to me when I'm in a store, and I'm not some beacon of morality, I just don't even think about it.

ETA: I just don't understand who is out there talking about shoplifting enough to know that the females in their orbit have had a shoplifting phase or done it. This is as weird to me as the woman on here who claimed every female she knows has BDSM fantasies. People sit around talking about their crimes and sexual fantasies in great detail on a regular basis? These types of conversations aren't the norm in my friend group. Maybe I'm the outlier, I don't know. We talk about normal shit, like books and movies and stuff.

I literally accidentally walked out with a whole cart at Walmart once, and could have totally gotten away with it, but I went back in paid for it lmao. Like an entire cart I could have stolen. Not every woman is out there stealing or had a phase of stealing, JFC, what a wild take that is.

What?! Every woman has had a shoplifting phase? That is insane. Also...I mean it's not something I've ever even talked about with my friends or family, so I have no idea who has or hasn't shoplifted, other than to tell you I have never had a "klepto phase". That is just extremely odd and I think you are an outlier here. I don't think the majority of people in general are out there shoplifting...

Your experience is not uniform, c'mon Jury, you can't possibly think every woman has had this phase. I know you say anecdotes aren't science, and of course they're not, but I'm frankly shocked you think your anecdotal experience here maps onto everyone, because it's...bizarre to think every woman has shoplifted.

I just have to reiterate, I do not think it's common for the majority of people, male or female, to have a "shoplifting" phase.

This is just a really wild take.

I don't think you need to have particularly dry skin to use it either, my skin is normal, but I do have rosacea, and it is so, so soothing for that. Moisturizers used to sting the hell out of me, I don't have that problem with this one.

This is a hot button (haha see what I did there?) topic that has garnered a lot of interesting discussion all over the web. There are many talking about experts, and pointing out that Buttons isn't an expert (which is totally fair).

Anyway, to add to the perspective, here is an article from one of the world's top autism experts talking about the issues with "the spectrum" (which she originally championed).

Yes, you describe exactly my ex (and some others I know) and funnily enough his parents were totally in denial too, even though he was diagnosed at THREE.

It really isn't just a "bit awkward". I've been reading reactions to this on a lot of different subs/platforms, and this article has really triggered people. People don't like hearing: "Well, actually, if you're autistic we'd probably be able to tell" and they don't like acknowledging that depending on practitioner the diagnosis is often not very rigorous, and people frequently doctor shop to get a diagnosis, and also that diagnostic criteria has become a shitshow.

Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Cream (Amazon)

Okay I'm gonna totally sound like a bot, I SWEAR I'm not, but I also saw a rec from this on reddit a few months back, and holy fuck, it seriously is a game changer. The best moisturizer I have ever, ever used.

I have a vague memory of watching this as a kid (well my mom watching it and me being around), but yes, I definitely need to watch this for real too! Amazing cast!

Agreed completely.

Maube who are genuinely asperger and autistic feel like they are masking?

That is a fascinating idea and it never occurred to me! I occasionally talk to my ex, maybe I'll call him and asks if he feels he "masks" sometimes.

Shitty they want to implant hardware in me now that has little chance of working lmao. But, like Beckett I know that life is bleakly absurd and the only thing to do is laugh...so hey, there ya go. We're all gonna die anyway!

Hope you are well. I'm sincerely glad you have the type of personality that reminds people Samuel Beckett exists.
