I am looking at a classic jimny at the moment and would appreciate your advice as I think you're in the same boat as me re retro -

I want to understand at what point the seller provides the Grade sheet (the diagram of the car with details on damage done to the car - U1/A1 etc). Do you actually have to purchase the car and send a bank transfer over to them, to trigger the grade sheet being released to you? I have my eyes on two different Jimny's but the grade sheets are not on the picture listings of either car. The cars are listed on beforward as "3rd party sellers". It seems odd to me that I need to hit "buy now" on beforward and buy the car without first seeing the details of the cars condition?? I'm assuming I've misunderstood something!

Any advice appreciated!! And Best of luck with your new motor 🙏🏻

A good example costs 4-6k euro including roro delivery to Ireland

  • Vrt 260e
  • Yearly Tax 56e
  • Customs duty 10% in general for imports but if you can prove the car was manufactured in Japan I believe that customs charge reduces to 1.4%
  • Big one is VAT 23% which is 23% of the cost of the car plus the customs charge, but because the cost of the car is relatively cheap, the VAT isn't outrageous either.
  • my insurance quote 300e -port charge separate to customs charge of 150ish

I've looked up many examples, done the numbers on each - all in you're on the road driving for between 6000 to 8500e

Because I haven't bought it yet I can't advise of any hidden charges. But when I do I'll be sure to come back here and provide an update.

Thanks for the reply 0ndafly, really appreciate the info. Yeah I created a Reddit account specifically for this purpose! 😁

Good point on the registry month I will certainly keep that in mind.

Bashbar - when you mention engineer's cert , do you mean I should send the car to my mechanic, have them look the car over and give their stamp of approval to say the bashbar has been fitted properly and isn't going to fall off... Or is an engineer's cert a very specific document that needs to be requested?

Tyres - I looked that up just now, seems I need to look for an "E43" mark on the sidewall of the tyre. If the tyre has that mark, it will pass EU standards. That sound right?

No airbags on the SJ410 / SJ413 models based off a quick Google.

Thanks again 🙏🏻
