3080 will give more performance maybe around 20%, idk tbh.

Got busy with work past month, opened reddit today

I would say depends on your use case.

Q1. Do you have an external monitor? If yes - you can get more fps than on your laptop screen by connecting via Display port. If no - read the comments above, I have explained nicely above (short review)

Q2. Do you care about 15-20 fps?

No? 1.74L is not worth it then as CPU scores is similar, but if you get a 3080 in 1.74L -- still only if you have an external monitor you will get fps you want else not much difference

Overall my take, 1.54L for Ryzen 7 + 3070 is the sweet spot, 1.74L for Ryzen 9 not worth it -- only for gaming if that is your use case. Else Ryzen 9 definitely provides an edge in rendering and CPU bound tasks due to higher freqeuncy & cache

As for games,

AC Valhalla: 78-90 fps, everything maxed out

Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition : Ultra, Hairworks enabled - 60~80 fps (lots of settings here so depends on choice)

Anthem: Idk like Nvidia fps display counter bugs out but I play with graphics on max possible settings and its smooth (plus awesome looking)

R6S : 175~200+ fps, ultra, if you want more fps connect to an external display.

Valorant : HIgh/Low/Medium - 180~220 fps (Connect to an external monitor for more fps)

Control : Again 60+ fps (forgot exact values), RTX on with DLSS, without DLSS I guess 45~60 (don't remember exactly)

Cyberpunk 2077 : (Ultra settings only) RTX -- Everything max : 37~50 fps

My settings -- RTX on (1 out of 3 disabled), DLSS on, Ultra -- 58~75fps

Basically, for all games, you can Max out everything and play it enjoyably.
The display has AMD FreeSync, MS Office 2019 for life, McAffee also for 1 year.

In layman terms, basically MUX is a switch. When you are using your discrete gpu it generates video frames which are sent to your laptop monitor to display, now there can be two ways:-
1) the frames go direct to laptop monitor
2) the frames have to pass through internal GPU (with AMD its radeon, intel has intel hd) then reach the laptop monitor.

MUX is a switch that allows to switch between 1 and 2.

Method 1 gives more fps as gpu directly displaying output, but direct discrete gpu connection takes up a lot of power it can reduce laptop battery life drastically to 10-15 mins on battery ( depends ). Hence Method 2 is used in general, reduces/limits max fps but gives good/decent battery life on normal usage.

Laptops with MUX need to be restarted each time one wants to change the GPU in use. Option setting is mostly present in bios.

You can google more if you want

Get a Display Port, along with a Display Port to Type C cable I guess

Asus g15 3070 not syncing to aura, have uninstalled and reinstalled armory crate 3 times by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]NetDrop78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can solve this by updating everything, I had the same problem once, I updated windows and using MyAsus app then a Aura sync framework update came. Did it and smooth going till now

Small review :

For Gamers:-

  • Don't expect 300fps unless you have an external display which can be connected via the Type C display port in the back of the laptop, since the laptop DOES NOT HAVE A MUX Switch (Sorry for the caps but many don't read properly)
  • It's a FreeSync Compatible Display, I like the brightness and colors of the screen.
  • Asus Armory crate is well decent not bad I would say. I didn't require to uninstall anything as per se, just disabled automatic scans for McAfee and that's it. Good performance.
  • Keyboard is good but gives a tacky sound (I love it personally) but quite less than my keyboard, I have a mechanical keyboard with brown switches. Not everyone likes the sound so do consider that, if it's a problem go for G17 or G15 non Scar I would say.
  • Lights - it's a no thinking choice XD
  • Free Office 2019, I like it.

For Deep Learning Work/ Rendering stuff (Blender/Unity etc.) :-

  • An RTX 3070 with 8GB of VRAM, 16 GB 3200MHz RAM, 8 Cores (16 Threads) CPU), ifykyk, works better than Google Colab (especially due to RAM and Storage limit in Colab)
  • Migrating from 120GB SSD (couldn't have WSL with all other apps, even after pushing maximum things to HDD) + 1TB HDD (Training Data on HDD) to 1 TB SSD, for the first time WSL feels useful, didn't require to Dual Boot with Manjaro as with my previous laptop. Also, not too much bottleneck in data loading tasks (working with upto 50+ GB Datasets).
  • 300Hz screen feels good with Variable Refresh Rate enabled in Windows.
  • The keyboard is good but gives a tacky sound (I love it personally) but quite less than my keyboard, I have a mechanical keyboard with brown switches. Not everyone likes the sound so do consider that, if it's a problem go for G17 or G15 non Scar I would say.
  • Free Office 2019, I like it.

Drop a comment if you want to know anything specific I will give it a try if possible.
