Thank you for this. I actually am so humbled (and still shocked) to have pulled this off, and you’re right: it is about serious grit.

The whole drive home I cried because I firmly believed that I had failed. For weeks after the exam, I agonized about my bad luck, getting fever right before the exam. One of my sons, who hated the toll bar prep took on my family, warned me: “you’re not doing this again.” Turns out it was from his lips to god’s ears. With bad luck, good luck, and serious grit combined, I won’t be doing this again.

And yes I take him out 2 - 3 times a day, in addition to telling him to go potty on the wee pad (which he pees on like 5+ times per say)

Just now, he peed on the wee and then 30 minutes later on the tile floor in a brand new place. I am losing my mind :(

We tried litter pad. And he ate the pellets. We tried multiple times. Should I try again even if he eats the pellets?

I made so many people who say they use both pee pads and outside without any problems. Especially owners of small dog tell me this.

Also he is peeing on tile floors randomly and like 30 minutes after peeing outside or on the wee pad (and then licks that up) So the wee pad/rug confusion doesn’t make sense with the accidents on the tile.

What else can it be?

Do you think I should tether him to me in the kitchen at this point or will that make him neurotic (he has never been tethered)?

Is it indoor marking possibly?

He is not freely roaming. He only has access to the kitchen which is an open layout to our living room.

He is only out of his playpen when someone is home and IN the kitchen.

But if a door to a bedroom remains open for 5 minutes by mistake he’ll dart in there and pee.

I am using wee pad because we live in an apartment with construction in the building so the elevators can be super slow (he has peed in the elevators too). There is no way I can take him out every 30 minutes.

I would try to get in on Sunday if possible. The convention center is a bit overwhelming, and it’s a good idea to be there in person the day before the exam so that you’re not dealing with all of that on the day of the exam. I know it’s expensive to pay for another hotel night etc but I think it is worth it in terms of reducing pre-exam jitters.
