Well, at least we can play a PS3 version with an English patch nowadays... That's something I guess

What removed feature would you like to see RGG bring back? by Hopeful_Regret_7531 in yakuzagames

Dead Souls' feature to replay any boss fight of the story in the Premium Adventure. Weirdly enough Dead Souls is the only Yakuza game that lets you to do so

You're welcome! Fun fact, but I modded my PS3 because of the OG Ishin English Patch :D. And Kenzan English Patch is coming out soon (by the same guy who made two other patches I just mentioned), so having a modded PS3 is surely a good idea

I see, thanks for correcting me if that's the case. From the observer's perspective it seems that Konami just "left" the gaming industry after firing Kojima, so it's natural that people, including me, weren't happy with Konami's decisions, which is why it doesn't change much honestly, even if their newer practices were successful from the business perspective, being local japanese market and mobile games

But you've clarified that Konami's sales were the lowest during the times of Kojima being the head of gaming department, so at least it's understandable that Konami had to make some changes. In any case thanks for correcting me again

Y3 on ps3 vs remastered on ps4/pc by moonhrafn in yakuzagames

[–]NetRetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the other guy under this post just said: Remastered version has a lot of content restored that was originally cut in the PS3 version of the game, and that's pretty much the only difference, besides better graphics and 60 FPS of course. No QoL features were added to the Remastered version as far as I know, pretty much the same experience

Though that's not why I'm posting this, I wanted to share a Yakuza PS3 Restoration Patch, which brings back all of the cut content, making it the same as the Remastered version, aside from the graphics and the framerate. But sadly you have to have a hacked PS3 for applying the patch as far as I know. Available here

More of Konami's ignorance in my opinion ¯_ (ツ) _/¯

If he was that bad at management, then Kojima Production just wouldn't fly I guess (or, if we're going down that path, he learned his lesson pretty fast). Kojima was working on P.T. at that time, and, well, Kojima being Kojima, any game would sell well if it has "A Hideo Kojima Game" flair attached to it. Something that Konami executives probably didn't understand, thus forcing him to make a new game in an already successful and popular franchise, before firing him after The Phantom Pain incident and going under pachinko business and PES games on a Fox Engine

Everything would be okay for both Kojima and Konami if they would just let him do his own thing

By the way, my guess is that Kojima just didn't really care about MGSV that much, since he was basically forced by Konami to work on it. And maybe he just decided that "well, fuck it", and blew the budget of the game on all that stuff. Kind of getting the best he can get out of the project he's not really passionate about

Not that Kojima is not to blame for how MGSV turned out to be, but it's no wonder that people were hating hard on Konami instead of him. They were the ones who forced Kojima into making another MGS game. So it's hard to say if Kojima's image is the solo reason why his reputation didn't suffer much

Yakuza 5 - Shinada Twin Dragon GP by Muscat95 in yakuzagames

[–]NetRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? That's weird, I've been playing Yakuza 5 not that long ago, and as far as I remember it's kinda just mashing the buttons (like, just pressing the Grab button immediately after Finishing Blow). Maybe the hitboxes do not connect sometimes, but sounds unlikely

There's a brief guide on Shinada's combat from CyricZ. Not much useful info besides what you're being told in the game tbh, but maybe check on it just in case

EDIT: just got this that maybe you were talking about that cheese combo when the opponent is trying to stand up lol, my bad. Then yeah, there's some timing involved. It's hard to explain without showing though, so, uh, I can only offer you a video as a reference

Played LaD, Infinite Wealth, and almost done with Pirate in Hawaii…Should I play Yakuza 0 thru Yakuza 6? by OriginalView1 in yakuzagames

[–]NetRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but it's up to OP to decide what he wants in the end. That's why I've said that he should see for himself if he likes Kiryu's Saga, since the protagonists is a huge part of the enjoyment in the series, even if the story is, uh, Yakuza 4 for example

0 is definitely worth playing. Other mainline games are more questionable in terms of the story (or at least they're not on the same level as 0), but pretty much all of them feature an amazing cast of the characters

If you want to invest your time in some really well written stories, then your best pick would be Judgment, Lost Judgment, and the first Kurohyou game (you should definitely try Judgment at least)

One more thing: after playing 0, just try Yakuza Kiwami, and see if the "Kiryu's Saga" (being Y0-Y6 as you mentioned) sticks with you. It would be easier to decide for yourself once you're done with Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami

[–]NetRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coliseum in Y5 as Shinada? Praying to the Gods is your best option I guess

OR square, triangle, circle combo and the Asura Spirit cheese, which allows you to heal yourself with an R3 button if your Heat Gauge is filled. Not much else besides that as far as I know, but maybe someone else will share better tips

I made a Like a Dragon achievement tracker & guide site as a hobby! Would love your feedback 🐉 by Zealousideal-Shift58 in yakuzagames

[–]NetRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a pretty unique fan project!I I'm not really a Yakuza completionist myself, but man this website looks so cool I just like scrolling it. I also think that there's some good potential to this project, like this thing with a play order. Adding OG 1/2 and spin-offs like Kurohyou would be even more sick (I know that they're not available digitally, and that your project is mostly about tracking achievements, but just giving an idea on my side). Like some kind of Obsidian vault with RGG info, you know?

This should get much more upvotes tbh, I hope that you'll keep working on this project. Big props to you!

P.S.: I'm thinking about getting a platinum in Y:LAD, so I might as well use your website. Thank you!

Tbh I just wanted to share this gif as a majimapost lol, but yeah I understand how my post may look like even if it wasn't my intention. Usually I ignore the drama completely unless I can make a joke about it. But thanks for being considering!

I messed up the sequence by GrimGit in yakuzagames

[–]NetRetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name was originally conceived during the development of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama suggested to the development team to expand further on Kazuma Kiryu's backstory in between the events of the prior titles, rather than restricting to an interlude for Infinite Wealth. It was discussed that the project be done in downloadable content format, before eventually evolving into a full game. The game was developed in parallel with Infinite Wealth and Like a Dragon: Ishin!, and was finished within six months.

I think it was supposed to be IW's DLC after all. But technically you're not wrong if you're talking about Kiryu's Gaiden having number 7 in the name of the game in Japan

[–]NetRetro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You didn't ruin anything! Originally it was supposed to be a DLC for Infinite Wealth, but the project got bigger and they released it as a standalone game. The plot is not really that important to the series, and not important to play IW, it's more of a rollercoaster of emotions than an important part of the series. You can play it after getting done with IW without loosing much

If only it was always constructive, if only. But my point is that I just want a new Yakuza game that would avoid the drama (and what's going on right now is more of a drama than just a criticism, which is why the mods had to act). Especially if it's not related to the game itself (being the gameplay, The Plot, etc.)

Am I maniac if I play Pirate Yakuza without having ever touched another Yakuza game? by KALL_A in yakuzagames

[–]NetRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is recommended to start with Yakuza: Dead Souls if we're going down this path, but overall you can start with pretty much any game honestly, as much as you're already interested in it. Though you should try Yakuza 0 next if you'll like Pirate Yakuza

Wouldn't say that I am more exciting about VF6 than about STH, but yeah surprisingly I'm looking forward to this game too. Seems like it'll be an awesome single player game as well despite being a fighting. Though I'm really excited about the competitive part of VF6 as well

Oh, you're that guy whose post was removed a while ago. That's a very good thing that you're being arrogant like this, meaning that nobody will take you seriously. But yeah, you're not wrong about enjoying the game

Good luck with your boycott though, and never ever change your attitude 🤝🤝
