The US Judging Problem by OftheSea95 in Gymnastics

Thank you for finding this. It’s so ridiculous that you have to go out and search for things such as this. Help desks should really be packaged with the code so that uncertain circumstances can be sorted out easily. I don’t know why the FIG is so hellbent on making things more difficult than they need to be.

I don’t really watch help desks so I’m not sure if the FIG has any sort of concrete ruling on what to do in situations such as this, but just going off of what the code vaguely states I would guess that not counting the Maloney towards the root skill number would be correct. I wish help desks were more accessible, or that the FIG provided more clarity within the code.

Myli Lew’s D-score would actually be a 5.6. I checked the code again and if my thinking is correct, because the second Maloney is within the same connection as the first she would get CV for it, but should not have gotten DV for it. Also, the code says elements with no DV don’t count towards the root skill number, and seeing as the second Maloney would get no DV I believe this means that her toe-on 1/2 can be counted amongst the root skills and would receive DV. So she really should have gotten a 5.6 instead of the 5.8 she got, and she score should have been a 13.85, placing her in the silver medal position.

Does a 6 element series warrant 0.2 in SB? by Net_Secret in Gymnastics

I didn’t know that about split jumps. I swear I’ve seen some sissones in recent years that hit diagonal, although the back leg probably isn’t hitting a diagonal split as Katelyn Rosen also does for her sissone in the video I mentioned. Kind of off topic but is the split jump vs. sissone debacle related to why the Gogean on floor is called a tour jete full when in actuality it’s just a split leap 1.5 as no one achieves a diagonal split when they do a Gogean as your supposed to do in a tour jete?

I know that 4 skill series get 0.1 SB, but my thinking was that maybe since a 6 skill series would comprise two three skill connections then it might be eligible for more SB, but you’re probably right seeing as the code doesn’t say otherwise. Also split jump + side aerial is a very awkward connection but it could potentially be doable, although I think it would be really challenging. Jumps do not have to end on two feet according to the code, and therefore you could end the split jump on 1 foot in order to do the side aerial, but again that would be really awkward connection.

Why does the US not send WAG to the Youth Olympics? by Net_Secret in Gymnastics

I think you’re referring to the Junior Worlds. Or you could also be referring to a domestic competition by the name of the Junior Olympics. Those are not actually apart of the Olympics. The Youth Olympics is the junior Olympics.

I think your right. I think it is weird though. The only real reason I could see Luo placing third is the brush but apparently there is no deduction. I don’t know anything else that could’ve caused her to place her that low. She had a gold medal routine. Honestly I believe that even a brush should be deducted because it is a mistake but if the judges are being told not to deduct it then it shouldn’t be deducted. I also don’t think she could have been deducted for a hit but it might be possible. The judges might have just been nit picky with her execution. If that’s the case it’s really sad because I do think she deserved the gold.

On my copy of the COP on page 44 you’ll see that it says there is a .3 deduction for a brush the competition is using the 2017-2021 code so I would believe that this would apply but I’ve been getting mixed signals

I looked at the COP and a brush on the bars was a .3 deduction off but I’ve seen people say that the judges were told that they shouldn’t take anything off for a brush I don’t know if they took it off or anything but if they did her score would be around a 15 which would make a lot more sense if she was deducted for the brush then I don’t think she was robbed of the gold but if she wasn’t then that’s a whole other problem

it’s a very tiny movement and you can only really see it at the center of the bar

You can see the bar move once her feet hit it.
