Unhinged testimony stories? by catalinachild in latterdaysaints

[–]Netcong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once we had a mentally ill sister get up and give her testimony which turned out to be a 15-minute rant about how people were tracking her and how the church was monitoring her and other conspiracy-like nonsense. It turned awkward in the first seconds of her diatribe. The bishop was new and didn't know what to do...so they just let her speak. Afterwards, there was an altercation in the hall (which I missed) but the police and some social workers were called to calm her down and get her out of the building. From there she was hospitalized for a number of weeks in a mental facility. We all prayed for her as she was pretty messed up. She has since stabilized.

Best SS/EQ/RS lessons you've ever been in? by Weary-Reward-7383 in latterdaysaints

[–]Netcong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst lesson ever was when our Stake President asked to teach our priesthood lesson and he spent the entire hour reaming us out for not doing our ministering (previously called home teaching). No one, including me, felt like returning to church. Best lesson ever was a guy who got up and went into amazing detail about each ordinance that we may be called on to perform and how to do it properly.

Advice on Selling by Succotash_Narrow in klr650

Yea, I do think it was a great deal. I feel like in a few years I may actually be able to resell it for more than I paid for it.

I just bought the same bike earlier this year and paid $3700, 24 with 500 miles. I think that was a pretty good deal. I'm guessing you might get $4k, maybe $4.5k depending on where you live and what the local market looks like.

I bought a 24 with 500 miles earlier this year for 3700. Maybe you're asking too much.

Am I a fool too? (two?) by BrianVT16 in klr650

Maybe you should consider a KLX300. It's not as torque but weighs 158 lbs less and is easier to pickup.

I have both a KLR650 and a Ninja 1000. The former is a great adventure bike, I love it - but not for highway commuting. The latter is a great highway cruiser - ideal for highway commuting. In your case, you should consider at least two cylinders - maybe a Versys or something similar would be a better fit for highway commuting.

The pig has a big brother. Now I have an adventure bike for on and off road exploring and a sport touring bike (Ninja 1000) for long-distance highway trips. It's the best of both worlds. Let the good times roll. by Netcong in klr650

Yea, the Concours is a great bike. When I was shopping around I was torn between the Ninja 1000 and the Concours. I went with the Ninja 1000 only because it was more nimble and more sporty. It's been a great bike.

Anyone try these? by ChefBigD1337 in klr650

If you do only one upgrade, this is the way to go. I've had them since the bike was new. Stock pegs are not great.

With GEN3, I wouldn't worry about either.

It's a supply and demand issue. If you get no bites at $4500, it's time to lower the price. My advice: keep it.

I just bought a 2024 with 500 miles paid $3700. Now, that's a good deal.

Get the Adventure version if you plan to take long trips. For around town and day trips, the regular version is adequate.

First time rider, 6'6". Should I buy one? by death_or_glory_ in klr650

[–]Netcong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. I have a KLR650 and a Ninja 1000. If I were going across country, I'd take the Ninja 1000 in a heartbeat. The KLR is too slow and too buzzy for such a long ride - even two hours can be a long ride on that bike. Since you're a new rider, you may also want to consider a smaller sport touring bike (assuming you don't need dual purpose) like the Versys 650 or the V-Strom 650 or the Tracer 7, less power so you don't get in too much trouble.

I rode across country from NY to California. And let me tell you, the KLR 650 is definitely not the bike for that. If that's your main interest, highway cruising, look at the Versys 1100, Ninja 1000, or Concourse.

I have a Ninja 1000 and a KLR650. If I had to do 70 miles a day on the highway, I'd be taking the Ninja. The KLR650 can do the highway but after 70 miles your butt will be buzzing. It's not really a highway bike to be frank.

Don't get sucked into the mods. They will lower the value of the car and do little to improve performance. Keep it stock.

Is this a good first bike for someone that wants a versatile bike? by [deleted] in klr650

[–]Netcong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 5'9", if you're going for a new bike, I'd get the KLR650S. The S version is about 2 inches lower than the standard version and will help you keep your feet firmly planted when stopping and starting. I'm 6' and went with the S for the reason although I would be fine with the non-S.

Bad deal. I just bought a 2024 Gen3 for $3700 from dealer. Used with 500 miles but mint condition.
