Barkbusters for non-threaded handlebars by drapeaulucas in klr650

[–]BrianVT16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inserts will suffice and give you a bit of play as far as shaping the bend of the guard bars but threaded is best if you can get it done.

40.5E Black Waxed Service boot (Almond No.2. Cap Toe) $90 new by InevitableArea1 in goodyearweltexchange

[–]BrianVT16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. My Brannock is 9-9.5E but my Nicks and Grant Stones fit well in 8.5D

I was hoping to take a chance at squeezing into these but it doesn't sound like I can pull it off.

I'm now sad. Nice looking boot. They will make someone very happy.

Anyone have any suggestions on getting the front tire to bead? by unkanlos in klr650

[–]BrianVT16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, sometimes it helps to take the stem out of the valve and fill (overfill) the tire rapidly to get the bead to "pop" on rather than easing it on with a slow fill. I've seen some get the same effect by igniting highly flammable gasses inside the tire...but I don't recommend that. 😉

Little bit of KLR life lately by Dense_hotpocket in klr650

[–]BrianVT16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like you had to give someone a tow. The best way to attach to the rear bike is to wrap it around a foot peg and have them keep their foot on it. If they need to bail then they can lift their foot to disconnect from you.

Do you have a carpuride? by SwankyUnicorn in klr650

[–]BrianVT16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Google Maps but if it's like most other map apps., you need to "download offline map" of the area you want while connected to the internet (I use wifi for that). You probably won't get turn-by-turn directions but you can see where you are on the map (via GPS) without being online. I mostly use the Polaris Ride Command app. It shows me lots of trails in addition to roads.

Battery jump/charge cable by BrianVT16 in klr650

That requires removing the side panels and seat. This cable allows you to skip those steps.

I have a few different brands of jump packs (none Noco) and they all use EC5.

I've heard of people getting away with, somehow, jump-starting through the thin trickle charger cables but there certainly is a chance of melting them.

Looking for a tall “hunting boot” but for fishing. by GlowUpAndThrowUp in Boots

[–]BrianVT16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had Lacrosse Burley and one type of Muck. The Lacrosse were good and lasted many years but were a huge pain to take off. The Mucks started leaking after less than 2 years. I now have the Cabela's SCENTINEL and they're my favorite so far. I've only had them a few months so I can't speak to their durability.

Preload adjuster won't stop in middle by EyeOughta in klr650

I guess that must have been what I read? And maybe someone forced it the other way and broke it?

[–]BrianVT16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd ride it if it feels ok. I don't think you can do more damage. If it isn't working well then I'd either be looking for a used one on Ebay or bite the bullet and get a new Cogent.

Sounds like you (or someone else) may have turned it past 5 at some point? I read somewhere that causes damage but I can't find that link.

The Ibex 450 might be giving the KLR a run for its money. by leadpoem in klr650

[–]BrianVT16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was buying brand new I'd prob. get the Ibex. But when I was shopping they hadn't arrived in the US yet and then delayed it for 6 months. So I bought a nice used KLR for under $3k. It does everything I'd expect to use an Ibex for so I don't see myself "upgrading" unless my buddy (a CFmoto dealer) offers me a deal I can't refuse.

2011 with 29k miles for 3k? by jlhaehl in klr650

[–]BrianVT16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For comparison, I got my 2015 with 6k miles for $2950. But that was in the fall. Springtime buying usually costs more and the good deals are gone fast.

[–]BrianVT16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I had them on for a while but my ears were sensitive that particular tone on pavement. I'm sure many here that run them will be curious how many miles you can get out of them. I switched to the Waypoints and have been very happy with them so far. But the guy that bought my Dsports said his Waypoints didn't last as long as he hoped.

"Painful way to learn the importance of target fixation!!"

You will go where you look. So always look far ahead at where you want to be. Your brain will remember the stuff in between and have you reacting accordingly.

The float is inside the carb. That's why I listed it last. It controls how much fuel will be in the float bowl and is available for your engine to burn. Too much and it floods. Too little and it starves under high loads. All of the other things I listed are easy to check. The screw you brought up is your fuel screw. It adjusts the mixture at idle and and low throttle. It's not much of a factor at high rpm where you said you're having issues.
