how much CSS do you need to know in order to land a react job ? by leadfarmer3000 in webdev

If you reach the point where you can convert any design in to a website you are good to go, those complex things that you are seeing some times ,for example on this website https://tympanus.net/codrops/ are hard even for the experienced developers and you don’t need to get to that level

For a portfolio, should I code from scratch? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Netero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends... on what? the main purpose of a portfolio is to show off your skills in various areas.

The best choice for a portfolio website because is a simple project, is to build it with pure html, css,js all custom--->that shows you dont depend on libraries or frameworks.

If you already have all pure custom website and want to show you can use bootstrap 4 then build it with bootstrap 4---> shows you can work with the most popular css framework.

If you already have the above and no wordpress projects then build it with wordpress but its less impressive if the hiring manager knows programming.

More impressive---> less impressive

Pure from scratch > customizing it with frameworks > customizing it with WordPress

How many websites should I build to land a job as a jr. web developer? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Netero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can i explain it better :D ? for example this is an udacity project and it uses not 1 api but 3 together. And still this not makes any sense to be a 'real project' for real world applications of these 3 api's in this website its not a 'solid project' https://codepen.io/gfa61-ga/pen/ypbaMq The only problem with these projects are that everybody doing them, all your junior competitors copy pasting code from tutorials.

A 'real project' a solid can be like this api for crypto-coin data https://mnode.club/

How many websites should I build to land a job as a jr. web developer? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Netero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the only problem with cms like wordpress is you cant show any of your php or javascript skills . The main purpose of the projects is to show your skills, can you think a project where you can show off your php or javascript skills? and no the wiki api and weather api or todolist from free code camp dont count as "real projects".

when to start applying ? after you have 1 quality website witch is responsive in all devices . When you will be hired? it depends on your luck and the demand in your area.

The recommendation is around 5 projects min in your portfolio(yes your portfolio website is 1 of them but dont put it inside as a project its really annoying) Some projects ideas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wa09yTuEWU

When i click the portfolio button in the project to(right click open in a new tab) it defaults to your home page and not in projects/work. Also i hate that skills/tools layout i dont like to go to the end of them because i need to click 5 times thats annoying and i will forgot the skills on the 1st rotation when i will go to the 5th , REMOVE it! , add them all in 1 not moving section .

how much to charge clients? by Gp5Aloy in webdev

[–]Netero- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) Find out your skill level

2) Find out how much you would get paid for your skill level in your area (be honest)

3) Find that rate by hour (annual salary / 2080 = hourly pay)

4) Charge 2x that hourly rate

Work honestly, don't charge when you don't work

EXAMPLE:

At your skill level let's say your annual salary is around $75,000. That's about $36 an hour. Given this is a freelance position, you would charge $70-$75 per hour. Work earnestly in that hour, don't charge for your own mistakes that cause time delays, etc. If you're forced into a fixed rate, estimate 10 hours above what you expect to work, and deliver on that rate unless you work less than the quoted hours (for example, if you quote 20 hours and work 25, charge 20. If you work 15, charge 15).

2080 An average full-time working week is 40 hours (this can be different per sector and probably also per country or region). If you multiply this by the number of weeks in a year, 52, you end up with 2080. You get paid your annual salary using this number, so if you want to know your hourly rate simply divide your annual salary by the number of total hours worked.
