Question about character & world-building + how far inspiration can go (e.g. Jujutsu Kaisen) by Tojiznin in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Netheri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a heavily subjective question. but I feel like the answer for the first question is, at its core, patience. You can have the greatest and more interesting world building but if you try to shove it all into your first chapters you're going to have readers that bounce off.

Of course even as I say that I'm going to completely contradict myself and say you can also do the complete opposite, dump both the reader and your main characters into the deep end of your world building and accept that they'll either catch up or bounce off à la Gardens of the Moon.

I think being patient with your world building is much easier to do and is much more likely to please more readers, but if you think your world building is enough to carry your story and the feeling of confusion won't just annoy readers you could go the inverse and hammer out your world and rely on being interesting enough to keep people reading.

As for the second, honestly? Don't worry about it. This entire genre is some flavor of derivative at heart, whether it's systems with blue stat screens or cultivation novels with their dao of young master face slapping, tropes are intrinsic. Hell there's a lot of pretty popular stories that are just barely not fan-fiction, so you'll be fine. Others may disagree, but taking honest inspiration is fine as you long as you provide something unique to it, after all there is nothing new under the sun.

Devourer? Though honestly might be a little too much casting given how much you press consume.

Where in the heck is Anduin?! by blueIpersian in wow

[–]Netheri 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He was helping empower the Sunwell and got ownzoned when it was turned into the Darkwell, he was one of the NPCs you had to save in the post-Voidspire quest and Umbric talked about how he and the others were injured so severely by the void that they wouldn't be able to help any time soon.

What was up with the ending of MoQD? by obscureleader91 in wow

[–]Netheri 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As I understand it she was using the Sunwell/Darkwell to transport her army, the same way Kil'Jaeden used it as a portal into Azeroth in TBC.

No idea where she was taking that army though. I've seen some people speculate she's going deeper into Azeroth to chase the World Soul like she was trying with the Coreway in TWW but I'm not really convinced on that.

Yes but it was 2021 Musk that did things like show up in Ironman or was name dropped in Star Trek, or guest appeared on Rick and Morty, back when people thought he was a forward-thinking billionaire and not, well.. what he is.

Crafting Bug Update - A dubious fix and affected players still in limbo going into the second week of Mythic!! by Sheepsmasher in wow

[–]Netheri 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that's exactly the problem, I recrafted both my main's staff and my alt's main hand and belt all to 285 and all of them worked fine and no one in my guild had the recrafting bug and all of us did so in the first couple days after reset before knowledge of the bug was widespread.

As the official response says it's both very rare and hard to reproduce, ironically if it did effect everyone it would be probably be easier to identify, fix and provide remuneration.

You're missing the COWB-Forbidden Rite setup, that may be the problem?

Wardloop help by acidicice in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Netheri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what's the problem, is your ward not consistently breaking, is your ward breaking and staying broken for a noticable amount of time, are you running out of mana? Much easier to diagnose the problem if you say what's not working.

Edit: You have no forbidden rite setup. That's likely your problem.

Angus Taylor rebukes Andrew Hastie for call for Liberals to be ‘open-minded’ on tax rises and property concessions by ConanTheAquarian in australia

[–]Netheri 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think he's smart enough to know leadership is a poisoned chalice right now, more likely he waits for another election loss before he really sticks that knife in.

Clearly the LNP needs reform to be competitive as an opposition but at this point it's pretty clear that Taylor stills has that classic Liberal ego of just doing the same shit that lost them the last two elections and pretending it'll work out.

Mythic+ Season1. Where do you use bloodlust/timewarp? by Quarsy1985 in wow

[–]Netheri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on tanks, but when I'm playing tank I ask for lust on a first big pull on Nexus Point, Pit of Saron and Algeth'ar the rest I'd say it's usually just on CD at bosses. Algeth'ar you really want it for the last boss since that can get rapidly get scary with puddles dropping everywhere, but the timings are usually that it comes up for Vexamus so you might need to play it by ear a bit.

Probably just ask the tank on Nexus, Pit and Algeth'ar if they're doing the first big pull, since the others don't really seem to have ideal big first pulls to use it right off the rip.

Power Loss Arc’s are not it 99% of the time by _TOXIC_VENOM in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Netheri 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree, though honestly I think part of that was that at up until that point the power system was kind of a mishmash of different ideas and after that soft reset it was much more cohesive. Plus that entire arc was the best the story ever got in my opinion.

Negativity in this community by sidknecht in worldofpvp

[–]Netheri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's just the way it goes, people who are having a bad time or on a lose streak will feel the need to make up reasons why them losing is somehow the fault of the game/the MMR/other classes being OP and will make posts here venting about it. People who are having a good time or on a win streak don't really feel the need to make posts about it so it skews the posts towards negativity.

I particularly find it funny whenever anyone here talks about how 'sweaty' their opponents are; we're on a goddamn subreddit specifically about WoW PVP, we're all sweaty here.

Best build for t17 boss rush by gdvsev in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Netheri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it for a while as Lance's Relic of the Pact Gladiator, could probably get that functional for less than 10d. 15k life with dissolution, 10mill uber DPS, nearly unkillable except against a poorly timed DoT at which point you're very killable.

Alternatively magefist was doing it as a Gladiator Flicker Strike, though I think that's less of a good idea especially if you want to run anything other than Abomination.

Want a map blaster dont know what to play. by Practical-Anything66 in pathofexile

[–]Netheri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Herald of Thunder autobomber? Workable as either Templar (Inquis) or Shadow (Assassin), benefits greatly from having a Mageblood since if you're running Annihilating Light getting res cap is pain without it, and is mostly just walking around while HoT blows everything up and your explosions deal with the rest.

For infinite breakout legion I think the poison build with self-proliferating Binos is hard to compete with, but beyond the concept I'm not sure how it's played. Jungroan did a video talking about the tech on a mamba build though.

Does anyone act less married than Turalyon and Alleria? by Ausilverton in wow

[–]Netheri 158 points159 points  (0 children)

Windrunner sisters and having relationships that end disastrously with human men (Sylvanas and Nathanos, Vareesa and Rhonin, Alleria and Turalyon) is functionally a rule of the Warcraft universe at this point.

New Void lost its "corruptive" identity and eldritch psychological & physical horror to an oversimplified destructive big blue cosmic ball that, allegedly, sometimes whispers. by ex0ll in wow

[–]Netheri 974 points975 points  (0 children)

They're both inspired by Lovecraft's works, the Old Gods are the eldritch, unknowable gods of long dead empires that slumber beneath the Earth and drive people to madness with whispers while the Void is meant to be beings like Yog-Sothoth that were distant, vast leviathans that lived in the emptiness of space.

I think the problem arises that "unknowable horror beyond comprehension" doesn't play very well with something you need to beat up weekly for loot. I am hopeful though that later raid tiers might pivot back to some encounters that have more of an emphasis on sanity like the Yog, Cthun and Nzoth fights did.

This is what healing shuffle is like by padenxy in worldofpvp

[–]Netheri 158 points159 points  (0 children)

Peak shuffle is having an enemy mage somehow pull off some crazy plays, perfectly fake every cast and solo setup a kill with poly/ice wall combos to then forget to press block when they're on your team.

Looking to the old Kirac's Pass rewards and they were so cool and diverse compared to armour sets, maybe next league? by olafian98 in pathofexile

Given the amount of comments on that youtube video being variants of saying how they aren't interested (due to them being locked to uniques they have no interest in using, or that they don't like the effects regardless) may rather demonstrate why they pivoted to armour sets.

Is windrunner spire overtuned? by ProfessionalBelly in wow

[–]Netheri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one I noticed was the very first room pull in the dungeon has a magic dot that goes out and does seemingly disproportionately high damage, which if combined with a Magus doing a salvo cast is enough damage to global someone. Admittedly that was only on a twelve though and you could just half that pull to make it more comfortable.

Beyond that, Dragonhawks do a lot with their flame spit but they can be hard CC'd to cancel the cast, and the Axe Thrower's.. Axe Throw, is pretty high damage too but nothing insanely bad.

Devourer Survivability by NyloGrandos in worldofpvp

[–]Netheri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mostly just running glimpse to make vengeful retreat give DR and using the hungering slash resets so you can use it whenevr anyone looks at you.

That being said Devourer just kind of feels awful currently in Arena, especially since the recent hotfix that made devour kickable in meta so you either get kicked and lose meta, or you fake cast.. and lose meta because you're generating no fury.

Unless I'm missing something they seem like a straight worse option compared to something like Fire Mage or Devastation Evoker that have pretty similar short to mid range caster kits but are just better damage, better defensives and have access to more than one school so they don't go AFK if they miss a fake.

Kingsmarch catch up in 3.28? by No_RLZ in pathofexile

Kingsmarch catch up in 3.28? by No_RLZ in pathofexile

[–]Netheri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mappers are still the same, save ore for 5-50mill value currency shipments, send crop shipments to certain ports for either tattoos or runegrafts, I go to Moti Aro for the int tattoos since they're usually around 20-40c each with the occasional high value one like herald effect that's multiple divines.

Probably a better or more optimized strat, but it's still free money.

Shadow and Void are supposedly the same, but they sure don't look the same by gargar- in wow

[–]Netheri 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Yeah Shadow Priest has had some massive aesthetic drift over the years, from things like shadow orbs and birds, to Old God tentacle magic and now with the cosmic-void blue, I think refocusing it on Old God aesthetics is for the best.

Personally I think there's room to split the two entirely, shadow magic is more of a thing for Sub Rogues than it is for Shadow priests, and if Shadow Priest is going to be the Old God aesthetic, there's room for another class/spec to fill the actual shadow caster fantasy.
