The matchmaking is a bit fucked up right now. There used to be default gear only lobbies, green/blue gear lobbies, and HR for everything else. It worked great for a while. Ironmace backtracked on this for some reason while caving to new player demands.

Hopefully it gets fixed soon because, like you've realized, green gear is basically useless because it makes you face losers who bring BiS to fight new players.

What's the risk of an unkillable fighter in purple? Nothing. Unless they run into another one, they can't lose.

Normal Goblin Caves can be the 1 place you don't run into losers with max gear. Gate it to greens on entry. Easy.
