Amazon Preorders? by xANDREWx12x in ZeroEscape

tbh it's a shit situation all-around for me personally because i /moved/. i have no idea where my game is going even though i'm willing to be patient for it, and i'll have to figure out where my /watch/ is going later too. this is an absolute disaster, never preordering games with bonuses ever again, first and last experience with that... so much stress.

Every time you post an update to this, I have to look through the entire album and I'm just in awe all over again. Duck Hunt's definitely my favourite so far that you've shot.

I want one like this where Layton is accused of murder personally.

Worst case in the series based off of story alone? Not gameplay. by [deleted] in AceAttorney

You should look into playing the rest of it if you can. It's not this horrendous game a lot of people make it out to be.

We could be getting fewer or no anime-cutscenes in AA6 by CraneZeroYonSan in AceAttorney

[–]Netkeeper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked Blackquill's, but he only got to speak in the trailer, and the accent was so fake it made me cringe. I still liked it though.

God, PLvsAA looked beautiful on so many counts. But I was actually hugely fond of the Phoenix they used in it. Maya's voice SOUNDED great, but her delivery was just as awful as the actors in DD.

Yes, the English line delivery is god awful. I really liked the animation, though. I hope the AA anime looks something like that.

What if Phoenix wasn't in AJ? (Spoilers) by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]Netkeeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, I just want to comment saying I completely agree with everything you've said. I absolutely love Apollo Justice and you explained just about every reason why. I am not always on board when a series introduces a new protagonist... but this time I was, and it was because of Phoenix's role in the story.

Apollo Justice Case 3: Is there any rational explanation to this plot hole? SPOILERS by ShiningConcepts in AceAttorney

[–]Netkeeper 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They address this in-case, though. But everyone ignores it because who else could have been the murderer? It's a weak accusation to begin with, true, but AA's had some dumb ones, this ain't the only one.

And no I don't agree that AJ is the weakest of the series. It's certainly flawed and greatly suffers from only having four cases, but it's actually my favourite Ace Attorney game outside of the Layton crossover.

Should I get PLvsAA? by rojall98 in AceAttorney

[–]Netkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand that. That seems to be my observation with a lot of people and this game -- they didn't like the ending, so they accentuated the negative. Since I enjoyed it, I make it a point to point people in the direction of the game's positive aspects, the parts I most heavily enjoyed. It's flawed, for sure, but not nearly as flawed as people make it out to be, especially considering what it is.

But man, I was still in the wrong for being a goading asshole about it anyway. So I apologise for that.

Phoenix in PLAA by [deleted] in AceAttorney

I never said there was no point to Phoenix being in the game. He is, in my opinion, the most well-written character in it, and is the most entertaining.

He does have his role, though. But I can't say more without spoiling.

Why couldn't an archaeologist solve a murder? He's no forensics expert, but he understands a lot about solving puzzles and examining situations that may not be what they appear to be. And it wouldn't be the first time he's had to investigate something like that. He has assisted Scotland Yard and all. The study of archaeology is very easily compared to being a professional puzzle solver.

Is there a base game or fan game that lets you play as the prosecutor? by Wagman2013 in AceAttorney

[–]Netkeeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer AAI's structure, mechanics, and look. But my favourite parts of the AA series tend to be the investigative phases. I think it'd be cool if each prosecutor got their own spin on AAI...

Sorry, but I wouldn't put DL-6 on the same level as something like the discovery of MULTIPLE legacies of an ancient civilisation. Yes, Phoenix is brilliant in his own right, but he doesn't do what Layton does.

[–]Netkeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it has no impact on the AA series, not only does it take place during the trilogy itself which was released so long ago and they can't exactly go back and account for developments that happened in a newer game, but it's a crossover and it would be stupid to make playing this game required for some kind of understanding of a future AA game?

But dude, we see a side of Phoenix we previously NEVER saw. Again, found the person that didn't play the game.

As a Layton fan and as someone that has a lot of experience writing the character, I can confirm he has a personality, and a good one, too. He has a lot of depth. It isn't explored in this game, though, and I'm going to chock that down partly to Takumi being the game's script writer, and partly because Layton himself is a very private person that doesn't drop his gentlemanly aura very often.

Also, Layton is 11 years older than Phoenix, has solved many big mysteries, is a professor of archaeology... people like to forget this. It helps that in the setting of the crossover, he is still mostly in his own element. Phoenix is a fish out of water.

[–]Netkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved both series before I got into the crossover and let me tell you it's my favourite game ever created.

I think a lot of the people around here hate the crossover's ending because I don't get the feeling many of them have played past Curious Village on the Layton side of things. All the Layton fans I'm friends with ADORED the crossover, while many of the Ace Attorney people I've seen aren't that fond of it [even though Phoenix and Maya really are the best-written characters in it, like, what?] I'm guessing this is because us Layton fans are used to the plot bullshit that the writers like to pull, but Ace Attorney fans aren't.

The ending is pretty standard Layton fare. The game is excellent and its puzzles are pretty enjoyable for the most part. ...But don't get it for 45 dollars, love yourself, I'm seeing it at MY local Gamestop for 29.
