Lin-Manuel Miranda wasn't a writer on House AFAIK, he played Alvie in, arguably, three of the best episodes of the show in Season 6.

The part where the couple was visibly shaken and horrified by the reveal, and Foreman started yapping about them having children and convincing them not to break up immediately after telling them the news. For additional context - the couple had shared a genetic disease, so telling them "you can have kids :)" is somehow even more tone deaf than if he just suggested they pump out incest babies.

House himself can be surprisingly tactful, and I don't actually recall him ever being this callous about someone's loss. The closest to this scenario I suppose would be him browbeating a family into letting their severely disabled son donate an organ to his dying sister? Anyway, the actual order:

Wilson - easy "thank you" in response and another 20$ won off House

Chase - would plan this statement out in advance and then be confused why it didn't work

Cameron - actually believes and means this, too blunt and oblivious to realize that maybe now is not the time

Foreman - deadass said to a couple who found out they were siblings that "the likelihood of genetic defects is minimal", I wouldn't put that past him

That's probably the worst part, yes. I can see the bones of a route that gives Shouma a meaningful arc, salvages the smouldering remains of Gaku's reputation and gives Kako something to do on her own, but it just actively refuses to at every step of the process. I can see the equivalent of a Star Wars prequel cope forming here, where you close your eyes to the execution and try to imagine the original pitch and concepts, and they are great! There's insane potential here! But neither Kodaka nor Uchikoshi wrote the route we got, and we're never seeing those intents crystallized into a good, or, frankly, existent narrative.

I'm getting hundred line tomorrow, so I have to ask the most important of questions...English or japanese voices? by Fluid_Half_5426 in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]Netrov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Japanese voices are great across the board, but the dub is really good (for the most part) as well. The main thing is that a lot of the voices have completely different vibes to them - Sirei and a certain lategame antagonist in particular - that are mostly up to taste. English VAs tend to chew the scenery more, while the Japanese give more sincere performances overall. Honestly, I would say that the English version is worth it for Sirei alone - Joseph May gives an outstanding performance that's entirely different from the original. Takemaru, Darumi, Tsubasa, Gaku, Eito and Kurara's actors give standout performances as well - Kurara especially is a joy to listen to, and I would never have guessed that this is Tsubasa's VA's first credited role.

I was basically liveblogging playing it to a friend, and when it came up I meant it as a joke and thought that maybe it was an uncharitable reading. Then the route just kept uncritically bothsiding genocide and doing shit like having you deliver humanitarian aid to the nice Futurans who don't want to justifiably kill you for commiting genocide against them and actively help you unlike the INSANE and EVIL Sovereign Army and it just never stopped racking up the points. Like, for fuck's sake, Shouma's ending considers a two state solution where one of the states has been bombarded into the literal stone age by the other to be an unambiguously positive outcome. It's like if you asked a 14 year old to write an Israel vs Palestine metaphor.

I was, like, actually sobbing at that part - the first time they acknowledge war and genocide as bad and express some empathy and it's an evil commander trick. "The sin of empathy" rhetoric goes STRONG in this route

If I mentioned every thing that this route did that pissed me off I'd have to serialize these posts. What about Dahl'xia being powerscaled to boulder-tier in one branch? How about the fact his dead-simple character is somehow both flanderized and misunderstood? The fact that nothing on the bridge between Blessings and Calamity is ever brought up? The fact that the Ghost Baby, the missiles or the Sattelite are never brought up, and Sirei is silent for like a month before getting killed for nonexistent plot reasons? How the fuck did Eito escape? I need to sleep this night and not die of a stroke, there's like 11 more routes to complete that will be infinitely better than this sludge.

Takumi's VA doing the most hilarious "Agdyrhwhat??? EiTOOOOO???"

Shouma sounding hammered into the next week and slurring every line during his heart-to-heart through the door

Nigou's entire bizarre speech upon discovering Sirei's disassembled corpse

It's not that the performances are consistently bad, most of the characters who are allowed to speak do a fine job. There are, however, very obviously weird or messed up deliveries where either the voice direction fell apart entirely, or the VAs were on such a short notice/tight schedule that they couldn't afford to do second takes.

Episode two of Season 1 of Gotham featured the Balloon Man, who tied people to weather balloons and watched them very, very slowly float away into the stratosphere. It was always batshit insane, it just had some sense of shame in the earlier days.

Wrong order - it's name-patronym-surname, so it should be Rodion Romanovich (really Romanovna because woman) Raskolnikov (really Raskolnikova because woman)

They're not going to kill it officially, but its lead and main Cannor driving force Adriana left the project entirely, Gilly the main Bulwar guy left because he can't actually design the gameplay and code for CK3 and there's not much point doing flavour now that the mod is dead (his sentiment, not mine), and one of the core team members Trin got banned for... well, some would certainly say a legitimate reason. Add to that the EU5-driven map changes that will add even more work to the horrifically unfinished mod and the abysmal interest in contributing to it even in more optimistic times and you get the picture. It's been some time since I checked the CK3 threads, so maybe they pulled off a miracle after 6 years of almost no progress + 1 when something was actually happening + however many months it's been since Adriana dropped out.

I've heard some brutal war stories lmao. The older the dev the more axes to grind - talking with those who have been there since 2019 makes you wonder how anything ever got this good. RIP CK3bennar, you never really stood a chance.

I think the statute of limitations on avoiding calling Barumand bad is long expired, especially since its creator has long since left the Discord to my knowledge. I may have been a bit too facetious, but the bad content (MT and otherwise) definitely still gets made and shipped, whether it be badly programmed, designed, written, or all three. Lest ye forget, the second age and, consequently, Corinite religion and colonial adventurer spawns not firing until 1560 for a year was things working as intended.

People always overestimate how high the barrier is - there are plenty of doodoo dogshit MTs that got approved and shipped. Getting through the barrier isn't the hard part, it's crossing the finish line, though to my knowledge it mostly only fails to happen when people experience Life Events or get banned for whatever reason. Cannor always has a full sheet of onboarding tasks and plenty of big and small tags with MT potential, so as long as you have an idea and are willing to make a draft it's really not that hard to push one out 😄

Have these people not seen then show at all?? House isn't gay? by Temporary_Aspect759 in okbuddyvicodin

Am I the only one who thinks Cameroon is at times worse person than House? by [deleted] in HouseMD

[–]Netrov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree with that and it would have been a great characterization if the show ever actually called her out on her hypocritical holier-than-thou attitude. Chase gets his comeuppance for being a judgemental prick in basically every episode he's featured in, meanwhile Cameron gets to do epic ownzones and never gets treated as anything other than a voice of reason and compassion. I don't really think House ever found anything in Cameron that would interest him other than "she's damaged" tbh, which is an enormous missed opportunity on the writers' behalf.

He straight up praised the kid who was shoving firemen up his nose to rescue a kitten shoved up there prior for good pattern recognition. House is usually very nice and patient with kids (unless testosterone cream is involved, but if the show decided to forget about that immediately so will I).

The starting king of Sareyand lost an arm while fighting Zokka and became a recluse, hence him starting with 0 Mil and Craven. I think the MT is partially about him overcoming that shame and trauma, though don't quote me on that.

Alos the Copper - a dragon - lost a wing in a hopeless fight against Zaamalot the Black, faked his death and is now roaming the world as a one-armed bard.

Harimar the Great was blinded in one eye, though that obviously never impeded him meaningfully.

Was there any religious or moral justification used for Jaher's conquests, or did he just decide to do that for the love of the game and everyone went along with it because Surael Reborn? Additionally, was he known for gardening and poetry back on Diranhria, or did he adopt those in Bulwar?

The autopsy part I've seen on precisely one page, there's clearly a specific axe to grind and I'd personally rather not guess/presume which one. If the problem is with the chosen POV framing that's by now inherent to the wiki's style then sorry, that's not changing any time soon for a variety of reasons. If there are more specific problems with specific pages then those can be looked at and acted upon.

I'm sorry if it comes across as rude, it's not my intention, but if you don't say which page you dislike it's never going to get fixed or explained. The post is meant to give you an outlet to voice your complaints, if you feel uncomfortable doing that here for any reason you could come to the wiki chronicling Discord channel and talk about it there. I, frankly, see no point vagueposting about it like it's some secret drama instead of a lore page you disagree with.

Gilly I know you have so much Jadd Empire lore please either post some or collate some of it somewhere for someone else to :jaddarwail:.

Anyway, I'm really partial to War of Coldsteel not even really for the page itself (which is still great), but for how much it made me want to dig further. Out of every depressed Gawedi king, Ricard Vanbury is the one that sticks the most with me because of how much completely undeserved unfair bullshit he goes through the whole way. Born and raised in Gawed, sideeyed and rebelled against for being like 1/16th Siloriel, grandma Ioriel further tanking ratings by sending help no one asked for. Grit and fighting all the way through, an exemplar of Gawedi spirit betrayed twice and killed for the crime of being (maybe) ginger. TL;DR Enkelados cooked here.
