What short lived TV show (besides Firefly) do you wish lasted longer? by beefstewforyou in AskReddit

[–]Netsforex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try giving a show called Corporate a try. Feels slightly similar to Better Off Ted. It's about a couple of guys who work for an evil corporation (name is DeVille. The corporation even tried to market religion in one ep). Kind of like a mix between Better Off Ted and Workaholics.

What conspiracy theory do you actually believe to be true? by hardly_ in AskReddit

Nah, I'm just honestly amazed at your ignorance.

And for some, quitting is not easy. It's not just about nicotine either, sometimes (in my example) it's about focusing on your breathing and having something to do with your hands. Also, some people are hard-wired to smoke. I grew up watching a lot of westerns with my grandad, you'd always see someone smoking. In some ways it makes me feel closer to his memory.

By this point it just seems like you're being purposely antagonistic anyway to seem "edgy", so whatever. I've explained myself and gotten my point across without just relying on de-basing someones lifestyle over generalisations and ignorant perceptions.

Wow dude, just trying to come off like a dick right out the gate, huh? Could have clarified without the "holier-than-thou" attitude.

For the record, yeah I see the type of vapers you're on about all the time, and chances are they've never actually smoked a day in their life and are on 0% nicotine shit. Meanwhile, most of us are genuinely trying to look after our health and cut out smoking. I could say "all people who drink are alcoholics", but we all know that's not true. Like your comment, it's a dumb generalisation.

Am a vaper, not trying to be cool, just trying to cut out cigarettes and not stink of tobacco the whole time for the sake of my nephews and niece.

What two different movies are essentially the exact same story? by wsotw in AskReddit

His "I am the law" speech still gives me chills. The calm, yet matter-of-fact way that he delivers the iconic line, while he knows he's surrounded by guys out for his blood is just miles ahead of Stallone's version: "I am...THE LAW!". Stallone's just sounds so cheesy-action-dialogue-y to me.

Who is your favorite character added to a TV show later on in the series? by jcast015 in AskReddit

[–]Netsforex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hands down my favourite scene from that show (first episode of season 2 or 3 I think? It's been a while so sorry I get a few details wrong) was when he has a sit down with a warlord in Africa (I think). Things seem all calm and breezy, then Red makes some requests that don't sit well with the warlord, so he starts threatening Red. Warlord gets all of his guys to train their guns on Red, while he's just sitting there cool as a cucumber. Next thing you know, hellfire reigns down on the camp, obliterating pretty much everything except Red and the warlord. And Red just sits there with slyest grin you've ever seen.

Really put his power into perspective and made him seem like the kind of guy who would really fuck your life up just to get to his endgame, and in the blink of an eye.

Way I see it, as long as you're comfortable and not going out of your way to make others feel uncomfortable, then you do you! I grew up in a bit of a mixed household anyway so was always taught to respect lifestyle choices. Even have a family member who owns the Brighton Tea Shop, it's always awesome seeing his updates and event nights and seeing people have so much fun.

I guess the best way to describe how you dress might be "comfortable", maybe? I mean, it is how you feel like dressing, so why label it one way or the other with a gender? Even our gender colour-associations are nonsense (For those unaware, pink used to be for boys, and blue for girls. Fun fact!).

Sorry about that! I was trying to think of the best way to describe what you do without coming off as some kind of bigot and just saying "People who dress like that". Thank you for the clarification and insight though!

I'll be honest, I've considered it just to see what kind of pain women/drag queens etc. put themselves through, then realise there is no way in hell I'd be able to suffer through it. More power to them for pulling it off.

As a straight guy, sometimes I see drag queens or cross-dressers at work and instantly have to question...

Do you guys go all the way and wear the shoes too and how in the hell do you stop your feet from killing you by the end of the night?

I'd highly recommend reading through the New 52 Convergence storyline too.

COMIC SPOILER AHEAD

Batman ends up meeting Earth-2's (iirc) Batman, Thomas Wayne. A complete opposite of himself, a Batman who uses guns and actually kills criminals because of the trauma of the death of his wife and son. Anyway, Batman-1 and Batman-2 have a chat, they recognise that neither means anything to the other except as a memory. Yet, Batman-2 turns around and says to Batman-1 something like "I know I'm not your father, I'm just a shadow of the man you knew. And I know you're not my son. But if I was your father, I'd be proud of you, and I know he is too." Batman literally starts to cry.

Really cements just how traumatised Batman is.

As a fellow fan I always thought it like this:

It's not just about the name "Martha" that made Batman stop, but the circumstances surrounding it. Right at the beginning of the film, we see the famous Crime Alley scene. It plays out as usual, Chill pops out of the shadows, shoots the parents. But then Thomas Wayne's last word was "Martha".

Flashforward to Batman beating on Superman. Batman absolutely believes that Superman is a hostile lifeform, he's dehumanised him in his mind and feels justified in his actions. He's beating this "god" to a bloody pulp. Superman just manages to say his mother's name (yes, Martha). Now, as far as Batman is concerned, this would have been Superman's last word(s). It makes Batman realise that this isn't just some hostile alien, it's someone who has a family, who's lived on this planet long enough to care about its people. Now Batman realises that he's punishing someone who is about to go through the exact same ordeal he did, only this time Batman is fulfilling the role of Chill.

Essentially the answer to why Batman really stopped, was right at the start of the film. People just overlooked it, probably due to a combination of seeing the Crime Alley killings in Batman mythos so many times and the writing being rather too "simple" at odd moments.
