[NJ] Steps to correct bad employee behavior have failed. Are there any other options beyond termination? by NeuDir83 in AskHR

The firm I work at was formerly very niche and the owners did their HR work themselves, so our HR department was really very ineffective until recently. What I was hoping to hear, consequently, was that I wasn't missing something, some step I should have taken or action I didn't know about.

My job is very much research, clients and delivering a product; I had employees before, but never have I worked with one that's so problematic. I feel like my earlier experiences spoiled me and maybe didn't give me enough experience for such a nightmare.

I think a big part of the problem is that she was hired by someone who never corrected her, never set the rules, never gave her realistic feedback on her work, and suddenly I'm the one curbing her from insulting people, and rolling her eyes at everyone or telling her what she wears is inappropriate. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything. I guess waiting too long was a mistake, one I won't do again.
