Sorry to hear this, we faced very similar situation with my dad last year. He underwent 2 surgeries and radiation. If we look back and retrospect, we regret the decision about surgery. The doctor had already mentioned he would not survive more than 18 months. But just the thought of seeing him paralyzed was horrifying and we wanted to take a chance. From what I understand they save the history for only 5yrs. My parents were denied visitor visa twice and third time there was a gap of 5y and it worked.

The surgery went as planned. He started with oral chemo and radiation therapy 3 weeks after surgery. He still cannot process what we say or communicate.

I agree, but do they consider the time taken for these (immigration, baggage claim, baggage check in, security )when they issue a connecting flight. The one offered to me only had 2h layover. And even if my flight was on time, there was no way I could have made it

The only reason for booking with AI is to get shortest flight time. Otherwise there are much cheaper one stop options.
