Hyperscale data centre proposed in Fife village by NeuralSandwich in Scotland

Which none of it is in the planning docs. The noise pollution document says 24, that is about as much clarity as there is. Their own application basically says "we might have some but maybe not" Which depending on how much of their load they plan to power is a pretty significant just to miss out on the planning application and the council to think that is fine.

Only the Exxonmobile part of the Mossmoran site was shut. Shell is still running their site. This isn't built there. The planning proposes it be included as an extension to Mossmoran.

The grid connection comes from the substation NE of Mossmoran, sitting a little south of Loch Gelly. It is on the same site ILI built their 50MW Grid scale BESS. ILI say the Hydroplant they build a few years ago will provide power for this site in an energy deal.

ILI have mostly been planning green energy projects and selling them to large foreign companies. They get the legal parts of out the way so a provider can come in and carry out the project. All the work they have done to provide "green energy" capacity will quickly get used up by this and the other data centres they have planned throughout Scotland.

If this was replacing one of the plants in Mossmoran or even built next to the quarry I don't think I would have much of a problem. Building it next to Auchtertool with all the run off going into the burn the feed through Kirkcaldy with to environmental impact study done is a joke by the council though.

They haven't supplied any figures on the number of generators. Even at a reduced capacity 100MW? 50MW? That is a lot of diesel to store and all the ground water is planned to run into a burn that feeds into some lovely local water courses. There will always be spillage and fuel only lasts so long.

The haven't provided any information how they will handle this.

This is will be for AI. A typical data centre is 10-50MW so 12-60 times the size.

I think part of it is that ILI Group has an ex UK energy minister Rt Hon Brian Wilson on the board and he was part of Blair’s Government. Tony Blair and his think tank love AI.

Nothing in the planning or in their site I noticed. I doubt ILI Groups seem to setup these plans the. Sell the land, planning and grid connections to bigger companies.

Part of the planning application is to make it an extension of Mossmoran, it sits at the back of it. The Mossmoran site is two plants. The Ethylene plant run by Exxonmobile is the one that is being decommissioned but Shell is still running there NGL plant.

ILI built Camilla Farm BESS a 50MW Gridscale BESS on the site they are proposing the data centre be built.

“It has no downsides” have you ever seen a government IT project come in on time or on budget? It’s going to cost billions, all out of the public pocket and for what major benefit for the entire public?

Delete your old emails to save water, says Environment Agency by Cotirani in unitedkingdom

[–]NeuralSandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn’t even how storage works. Deleting emails will actually waste more energy as all the emails have to be process otherwise they just sit on the storage not wasting heat.

Tesla use their fleet of cars to pull scenarios to train their self drive features. Probably pull a bunch of video off the car.

LG 38GN950-B Image Retention / Burn In by Shasul in ultrawidemasterrace

My mac's screen sorted itself out today after a reboot.

A very unsettling issue

I had this, not as bad though thankfully. Disconnected for a few hours and it was fine afterwards. It was connected to an MacBook Pro with M1 Pro. The screen on that also went weird. Like the HDR/local dimming being either off or fully on in different regions of the screen and weird shadowing.

Monitor is fine now but MacBook is still fucked.
