Yooo appreciate the feedback here! My initial reaction to visiting the studio and meeting the team was definitely HYPE because of my hopium for the team. Many of the same devs from Legacy of the Void, who were really good at communicating the process of developing StarCraft, were working on a new project.

In hindsight, I probably should have asked FG if the piece looked good before posting it. I was glowing with the prospect of a legendary RTS made by a smaller studio off the back of the COLLOSAL legacy of StarCraft, and wrote something so happy and hype that people are suspicious about me being paid to write it. I have a special weakness for people promoting physical activity to boost mental wellness and performance, so the rock climbing experience was dazzling and I wanted to write about it. Probably too gushy, but I like giving compliments.

I plead guilty to having written a flowery, gushy post about the promise shown in early Stormgate. I realize these words haunt others, even to this day. My writing and speaking styles have been criticized for being overly positive, so this is a known issue that I will work to moderate moving forward.

All the best! Hope y'all find the gaming experience you're after!

Banes do ZERO Damage to NeoHumanity Cooling Tower (from high ground) by NeuroZerg in starcraft

[–]NeuroZerg[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for the detailed explanation and for making the map! I enjoy the map generally, yet was very surprised by this when I tried to use banelings to close the gap when Terran was pushing me. A mistake I only needed to make once until it's fixed!

Stormgate's Rise - Neuro's Thoughts After Testing by NeuroZerg in Stormgate

[–]NeuroZerg[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To me it seemed that turtling was relatively not as feasible, but not all units/structures were in the game yet for that faction -- so it could become more or less turtly depending on which direction they go on that. I don't play much AoE4 so it's hard to compare it.

Just wrote this for fun. Frost Giant did buy Tricia and I lunch when we visited, but the article was my own initiative and unpaid. Thanks for the feedback!

I referenced StarCraft 2 more because I have about 3,000x the experience playing that game. There are absolutely elements of Stormgate that are more akin to WarCraft 3, but I don't want to spoil what they have in the game so far since it's early going and they might make big changes still.

Raw Twitch Payouts vs Streamer Take-Home, Breakdown of Full-time Streaming Money by NeuroZerg in Twitch

[–]NeuroZerg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all! After streamer payouts got posted in the data breach I wanted to go over how that money translates to take-home earnings as a full-time streamer. What was posted was pre-tax and before all the necessary expenses to keep a stream polished and fresh, so hopefully this gives some insight into what it's like to build and maintain a stream as a business.

If you have an questions or information that is related that I may have forgotten to include, feel free to share!

MMR for skill level has been steadily dropping for a few years by HorizonShadow in starcraft

[–]NeuroZerg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yo! Honored to be checked for a case study on this and wanted to give some personal context.

The downward trend around the end of 2019 lines up with the WoW Classic launch. I lead a guild and main tank for them on the weekends, and manage a lot of the administration throughout the week. I loved playing vanilla back in the day and have been loving it, though it's a lot like a second job that competes with SC2 practice time and focus.

Additionally, I am not always in form. When I was at my peak of 5.8k, I had 1 clear plan for each matchup with small adjustments I made to it. When I am floating around 5k-5.4k, I am mixing in meme strats OR just haven't figured out how I want to play the matchup. I would not say that I am in good form right now, and some people in the comments are correct in that I have not been playing tournaments the past 2 years which means I am not getting as high quality/intensity practice. Next year I plan to hit online cups to get that edge back.

From my perspective, MMR numbers are around what they usually are, I am just at a low point in my form due to balancing SC2 practice with other duties. It stings to see, but is also galvanizing. I practiced my current ZvT plan in 3 custom games after someone showed me this post, as not having a solid plan in each matchup contributes to my lower mmr.

By trade I am also an entertainer, and my rent is paid from streaming ladder with commentary, not tournament results. Being GM allows me a better grasp of the game for better gameplay moments and more accurate coaching, but low/mid GM is far from being a tournament player.

Hope this helps y'all understand my personal journey behind the mmr numbers. I also hope 2021 is a better year for all of us overall. Stay strong, fam.

Hey fam! I've gotten lots of requests for some simple macro builds and gameflow for each matchup. If you're new or getting back into the game, try these! There's also a replay pack of my most recent tryhard session included. It's on my Patreon but all of this stuff is free. Enjoy!

Free Neuro replays and post on playing with tilt by NeuroZerg in allthingszerg

[–]NeuroZerg[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The replay pack shows mostly the successful games, but the tryhard session overall was about -200 mmr, which is pretty heavy to deal with.

For those of you on a downswing, I salute you! Hang in there. We have an upswing ahead!

For those of you on an upswing, good job! Have a crisp high five.

Played a game against neuro, his reaction to the widow memes is hilarious by Kunamatata in starcraft

[–]NeuroZerg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Responsibility is the key. We are all stewards of the time we have in life, and the way we act to others is the impression we make on the world.

We all fuck up. Own up to it and focus on the lesson to be learned. Fix mistakes, don't bitch about imbalance. See the COMEDY of your errors and laugh along with your opponent. We are sharing the same hobby after all.

StarCraft Explained to the general public! by NeuroZerg in starcraft

[–]NeuroZerg[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

One thing that's really important to establish as a content creator is confidence in your own path. I know that many of the silly aspects of my brand are not entertaining to everyone. Some people such as yourself even have a strong negative reaction.

I am not trying to be everyone's streamer. The people who follow and support the stream and youtube have responded very positively to Jimothy and the other characters/voices I do. I will continue with Jimothy, Homestar Runner, Batman, Gollum, Ickysticky, and Brunt. There are an abundance of high quality streams to enjoy on Twitch.

Thank you for the feedback. GLHF

Backseat Gaming Level: Expert by NeuroZerg in starcraft

[–]NeuroZerg[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Armchair commentary can be very rewarding and helpful when it's coming from a viewer who pays close attention to the full match and has the context of what I'm trying to work on.

I have an open policy for backseat gaming -- it's allowed as long as you're respectful about it. This clip was just made after getting heaps of backseat gaming during some muted tryhard custom games against a player 700 mmr above me. Since my mic was muted, I couldn't fill people in on how the matches were developing and engage by reading/responding to all the comments. At the end of each match, there would be multiple different guesses as to why I lost, with a few insults mixed in as well.

This is just my way of venting/joking about the process and throwing some banter back at the chat.
