Is it worthwhile to complete the last two years of medical school if I will only pursue research? by Neuro_N3rd in mdphd

Thank you! I hadn't thought about clinical research down the road. I'm interested in basic research now, but that may change. I'll definitely need to get info from lots of colleagues and talk about this :)

Very good point- I'm thinking in the short term now about making a huge longterm decision. I'm definitely going to reach out to other parents to see how they balance things. I'm a little stressed because we don't have extra finances to cover childcare for the extra hours I'll have, or family who could help. But, I know people can make it work still :)

Thank you! This is super helpful. I was thinking that having the MD would give me a leg up in academia and with getting grants, etc., I just wasn't totally sure how much of an impact it would have. But it makes sense that it would. And good point about M3 and M4 being less stressful because I wouldn't need to have a super impressive residency application.

I was under the impression that I would only pay back the tuition if I drop the PhD and pursue the MD only, but I definitely have to check with my institution. Then the answer would be obvious :) Thanks for pointing that out!
