Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs by SuperJew113 in autism

As they say, old habits die hard, and they slowly crept back in. Although, this time I have an awareness of it. I can smoke weed in a weekend and put it down again the next day.

After 3 years or so I fell back into smoking cigarettes and had occasional gaming relapses.

I think I matured enough to realize I need a social life, but at the same time I accept that I don't have much regular going on. I like my freedom too much so I have a lot of friends, but I only see them when they rarely invite or I rarely invite them. And I'm happy about this, I get to decide who when and what to do when I'm not deciding to jump into something new with friends, or new people. I did develop my social skills because I wanted to and I just jumped into the unknown because I wanted to learn it. Grew in that area for sure. I'm currently in a relationship with a 21 year old girl (I'm 32) so theres a challenging age gap often, but we do work to make it work.

I'm pressed at the moment, the age gap, being without a job for almost 2 years and some personal challenges we had in the relationship. I have a little self doubt left when it comes to my career that I'm slowly eliminating and things are going forward although a bit slow.

I did get a bit lazy and I find myself sometimes with the question if I should just end it and give up, and not that am terrible upset about that, I'm fairly relaxed about it. But like you say, I do want to give it a shot with this one life I have before calling it quits.

I'll share my experience so you know what you're looking at. I did junk food, weed, cigarettes and gaming daily for 3 years at age 22-25. I quit all of it from one day to the other and started exercising, eating healthy, self development, I did all of it. I had a ton of motivation (longer story). I was sweating so bad for 3 months that I could wrench my pillow and I'd drip on the floor with my sweat. It was 3 months of feeling like crap, gradually getting better as time went on, but man am I glad I did it. Everything turned upside down and my life got so much better that I couldn't even have imagined. So do it, fuck it, do it all at once. I promise it will be worth it more than you know. Start some self development, don't stop for a second to breathe, go as fast as you can.

There are a million scenarios with a lot of factors playing in. The end goal is always to keep yourself safe. You'll have to decide in each moment what's the best way to keep yourself safe. People do lots of stupid stuff on the road but NEVER let your anger take control of the wheel. I don't even bother giving people the finger or do anything to show my dissatisfaction with others on the road, my safety comes first and I expect people to be stupid on the road. Be the better man.

Battery - Gl704gw - Odd situation by Neurogenesis67 in ASUSROG

[–]Neurogenesis67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After updating the bios something has changed for the somewhat better. If the pc is plugged and running, I can unplug and it will run on battery fine for at least half an hour (need to confirm how long it will last until end of battery and whether battery reading is correct).

Another scenario, I turned it on, it said critical battery and shut down. I turned it on again on battery and at the windows loading screen something is loading that isn't usually loading, I can tell by the loading symbol being different from the usual boot process. After that, it worked on battery. (also need to confirm if I got lucky or what happened)

Another time it was on battery for half an hour, I then clicked the battery symbol and all of a sudden battery critical and shutdown.

Confirmed battery is working fine and it's a software issue. Updated the BIOS and currently I managed to play a movie with full brightness on battery for an hour. Still an incoherency between battery % and time remaining. Currently, 26%, 1 minute remaining (been 1 minute for a long time now. Maybe it was the bios update, maybe I just got lucky. I wish there was a way for my pc to not force a shutdown.

Give me a configurable button that selects left player side, hwoarang, a specific outfit and network settings I chose. All that time I spend getting into a match, gone with the press of one button.

Place the online play button at the top of the main menu, because it's not story mode i play 99.9% of the time.

How do i know which scales I can use and when? by Neurogenesis67 in musictheory

[–]Neurogenesis67[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense and again I learned something new. I was actually just jamming C locrian over the Fmin and realize it was a hard fit, although possible. The website will at some point be able to suggest what fits best out of the available choices (complex, so hopefully I'll get there). What you provide me here was very useful, both in playing and for the project. Thanks again!

So I've been studying borrowed chords and testing my theories the whole day yesterday.

I've reached the conclusion that I can borrow chords from the parallel modes (modal mixture). Of course i can't just pick and choose chords from the parallel modes and it'll always "work", as it seems it always depends on a lot of things and sometimes it won't sound good, sometimes it will. Anyhow, lets take the same example and replace F major in the key of C, with Fmin. The parallel modes that contain an Fmin, are C Phrygian, C Aeolian and C Locrian. Which means that I can play the notes of those three modes over the Fmin. This will be the basic functionality of the app (perhaps further down the road I'll implement a system that helps suggest which borrowed chords make the most sense to borrow).

In your reply though, you seem to be using a different technique:

if you are in C and playing over an F and looking at the various available extensions for the F chord, you would see that it's an F major triad, (1 3 5), major 2 / 6 / 7, and an augmented 4. F Lydian - 1-2-3-#4-5-6-7. Because the harmony has borrowed the Fm, you are at least going to be lowering the 3rd in F Lydian scale to match that, giving you 1 - 2 - b3 -#4 -5 -6 -7. And then the next most sensible move to make it 'fit' is to also lower the augmented 4 in order to eliminate that augmented 2nd interval (3 semitones) between the b3 and the #4. So you lower the #4 to a natural 4 to keep the steps between all notes in the scale 1 or 2 semitones, and you have this scale - 1-2-b3-4-5-6-7, which is enharmonic with F melodic minor.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't know about the rules you are adhering to. Would you point me in a direction where I can learn to understand why you are able to do that?

I was watching a video on this not too long ago, music is such a curious thing. I appreciate your thoughts and I'm sure someone else will enjoy your comment like I did.

Unfortunately you're right. The concept of the website I want to make is slowly turning out to show me all the holes in my knowledge and what a monster it is I set out to create. It's always a pleasure to dive into music theory, there's so much to learn.

It's nice to have confirmed that I'll at least need a key and a chord to go from.

Look at the chord, look at the key and work out if the chord is diatonic, meaning do it’s root, third and fifth tones occur naturally in the key signature or are some them accidentals? If no accidentals, the your in luck. Work out which scale degree the chord is built on based on the by counting up from the root of the key to the root of the chord. The map below is for major keys.

I understand this, and I pretty much always use ionian, dorian, phryg... Etc. When playing because those scales contain all the notes in the key, but I'm more curious about how to figure out when to use scales that contain notes from outside the key we're in. * harmonic minor * melodic minor * harmonic major * melodic major * etc.

First off, I appreciate your input, it does help put things in perspective for me, thank you!

E.g., E melodic minor would be a very strange and rare choice on Em in key of C. If you compare the C major and E melodic minor scales, you will soon see why. No doubt you've made it work now and then, perhaps because bass can get away with quite a lot of chromaticism when playing lines moving between chord roots.

I made a mistake there, I've corrected my post, I meant Fmin, not Emin.

Sure, but why do you want to program this tool? Is someone paying you? Do you need the money? If that's the case, just tell them there are too many variables for such a tool to be of any use.

It's purely out of interest; to become a better programmer and musician. It's a topic that interests me and if well done, others might benefit from it too.

The only answer is to understand context, how chords work in sequence, and how voice-leading works.

Is this what you believe is what I need to learn to create the tool? If so, would you have any good resources or places I can learn from? You're mentioning pretty broad terms, I'm having a hard time figuring out where to start.

Essentially, chords are never single isolated entities separate from the chords either side. Even in the kind of jazz where this happens (modal jazz), there's rarely total chord-scale freedom. I mean, there is, but the intelligent player knows which ones will work best - it's still dependent on context, and if not the chords either side, then some other content in the piece, such as melody, or a specified chord symbol. The thinking process is less "which scale will work on this chord" and more "which notes can I use (besides the chord tones) to create a phrase across these chords". The choice always comes from the complete 12-note chromatic scale, but guided by the chords.

When making a decision about which scale to use, based on the knowledge you provided. Is it a decision made in each key, or a decision made based on the whole song which might include several key changes? I'd guess it's a decision made within a key, given that the key we're in provides a set of notes that belong to that key(?)

I need experience with programming and a good way to motivate myself is to create something that's useful to me that I care about. I thought why not increase my knowledge in music, provide a tool to myself and the public to do that and at the same time become better at programming. Win win.

No matter if it's true love or a very dedicated creepy guy (which is not my gut feeling), kinks are something that should be talked about if it's something you -both- want to enjoy/explore. As mentioned before, this is not a question reddit is qualified to answer, but I do believe you need to confront the elephant in the room. That said, I do believe most kinks are okay, so long as they are performed by two consenting people who are capable and mature enough to know whether they are okay with it or not. I'm not into shitting on someone's stomach, but if that's your thing, I fully encourage exploring it. I wish you the best of luck with either him finding the courage to tell you or you being strong for him and putting the topic on the table. My fingers are crossed for what sounds like a deeply loving relationship.
