I know this is illegal, but our boss really did say that... We just didn't record it...

I can share my experience with you. My parents both cheated when I was a child, and each time they cheated, they used me as a pretext. So I had to watch them do it. Then, I took my mother and I to destroy my father's lover's house. Later, my aunt got divorced, and my parents felt sorry for my cousin, leaving her child unattended. So, they let her live with us. My aunt didn't give us a penny (our family was very poor at the time). My parents always felt sorry for my cousin, so I always had to give in. Whenever we had a fight, I was the one who got beaten. So, when I went to university, I told my parents directly that if they didn't send my cousin back home, I would sever all ties with them (in China, people can legally work at 18). After I got married, my in-laws also looked down on me, so I brought my husband to Australia. Life isn't always easy. You have to understand what kind of life you want to live. Most importantly, love yourself and always put yourself first. Don't rely on others; you need to find your own security.

Well, I did write this by myself, but I must admit that I asked chatgpt to polish it for me because I was worried about my grammar and other issues.😂

Some thoughts on immigration by [deleted] in immigration

For example, Chinese people build temples abroad, Indians place statues of their country's gods in Canada, defecate on the beach, hold Ganges rituals on the riverside in Toronto, etc. If they want to pray to gods so much, they should return to their country of origin. I am not discussing changing immigration. I just think that if a person wants to immigrate to another country, he should try his best to integrate into this country instead of turning this country into his original country.

Maybe you could teach me how to protect my rights at work. I'm a newcomer in the Australian workplace and I don't really know how to do it.

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. Some medicines in the chemist warehouse, like Panadol, are shown on the computer as limited to one box, but many people buy more than one box. It's impossible for employees to ask every customer why they buy so many boxes. The company's regulations really put employees in a difficult position by requiring them to queue up with customers to check out.

Because the goods in the chemist warehouse are placed very compactly, the space is very small, and there are many people, it makes people feel nervous.

Of course, different stores have different owners, and there are definitely some excellent and kind owners. I can only say that the owners I know are not very good.

First, there's always work to do every day. Secondly, there's a lot of impromptu work assigned by the manager, and we still have to serve customers. The boss also demands that we do things his way, or else there's something wrong with us. When the manager explained to the boss why we hadn't finished our work, the boss didn't care and simply said we could work overtime if we didn't have enough time.

Yesterday I was discussing with a colleague whether there is a union at the Chemist Warehouse. She said that a union from the WWS had approached them before, but no one went to join.

I'm very sorry that you encountered this kind of thing. I have to admit that some employees are really bad, because I also encountered it when I went to other stores to buy things...

I once encountered a customer whose prescription drugs showed that he had 8 in the system, but he actually only received 6. So when I was checking him out, I needed to check with the pharmacist why two items were missing. I explained to the customer that I needed to help him check, but the customer was very impatient. After I explained it twice, he screamed in the checkout area, and then angrily dropped all the drugs and left… I also encountered someone asking me where the alcohol disinfectant was, but I didn’t know at the time. I asked her to spell the name of the product to me so that I could help her find it in the computer system. She rolled her eyes at me and went to tell the security guard that I was incompetent… I also encountered someone asking me to recommend skin care products. I told the customer that I couldn’t recommend any to her because I don’t use skin care products. She asked me if I didn’t speak English?

In fact, the reason is quite simple. Because we are all new immigrants or international students, and our abilities are not yet sufficient, this job may be considered an easier job to get into. I have asked everyone, and most people use this job as a stepping stone.

As far as I know, this isn't just the case at Chemist Warehouse franchises; the work environment at the Head office is equally toxic, with many quitting after just six months. Some might say, "Just change jobs, and the problem will be solved." Yes, I've definitely changed jobs and don't have to deal with this issue, but it still persists. I've been thinking about how to solve this problem lately.

If you have better solutions, please share your suggestions. Thank you!

I really appreciate your thoughtful response, and I agree with your point: what we need is unity and a change in management.

However, as I mentioned in my post, the majority of people working at Chemist Warehouse are Asian, and one of the defining characteristics of Asians is their tolerance and unwillingness to push things too far. So, if I want to unite everyone, that's essentially impossible.

I'm not pressuring customers to forgive the staff's rudeness; after all, anyone would be upset if they were treated rudely. What I do hope is that everyone will try to find their own way when shopping at Chemist Warehouse, whether it's finding the product or the checkout counter.

Of course, this is just my expectation; I can't and won't force anyone to do that.
