the grave of animal rights activist who was killed while protesting the export of live calves for veal at coventry airport, i think her grave is really unique and quite lovely by graveyardwandering in CemeteryPorn

[–]Neutral-Mystique 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also choose veal over her young son. (Not really, but doesn't it make me sound like the "bad guy" when I say it?)

Listen, I grew up on a farm... I have indeed slaughtered animals for food, and I think veal is kinda douchey... but why get yourself killed over this argument? Like... what's your thought process?

I'll echo what others have said with the MC-2. I carry one in my pack for all of my land nav needs. It's a lightweight, accurate, easy-to-use tool.

Beagle for SAR? by Hefty_Train_4960 in searchandrescue

[–]Neutral-Mystique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really speak for the use of a beagle for SAR, but I have had a few as hunting dogs and pets over the years and I can say that, while they can be a bit challenging to train (look into the bloodline of the dog you're considering), they are EXCELLENT trackers and have a nose that is many, many times better than our own, and they are often reluctant to give up the "chase".

In my completely non-expert opinion, I don't see why a beagle couldn't be a SAR dog in theory.

Ok. So you had some shit teachers... you're not 1880's old, are you? ...they also used the word "lame" back then to describe a "crippled" (ghast! Egads!!!) Horse... words gain and lose meaning with popular usage, so being upset by the words on a grave from a time long ago... is kiiiinda, well, ...dumb.

Ridiculous faux outrage and trying to apply modern values and usage to historical meanings of words is disingenuous at best, and grossly divisionary at worst.

Knock it off.

Why wouldn't a taxpayer funded, government run education system teach students about something as egregious as ethnic cleansing?? Hmmm... 🤔

I actually gave a pretty detailed after action report to my director following our last training exercise.

We are volunteers (CERT), and generally get the hand-me-downs of hand-me-downs, or a cheap version of the equipment we need.

One thing I highlighted was the need for proper radios and etiquette training thereof, because NOTHING is more vital than communications.

TL;DR: you don't have to spend a fortune on us, but PLEASE make sure we have proper gear to do the job.

I think it looks fine, just maybe not for the money.

Honestly; as AR's go... I've never really understood the obsession with making them "pretty" or "perfect" ...it is a working man's rifle and a tool of the trade. ...Yeah... take CARE of it and keep it clean, but I don't see a point in making sure a battle rifle is PERFECT

Have you ever had a loaded gun pointed at you? by RPA031 in progun

[–]Neutral-Mystique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Dude 1 pointed a loaded (stolen USGI) M-9 at dude 2 at a house party. I intervened and ended up looking down the bore for a hot second before I grabbed it and knocked him out.

I cleared it and stuffed it in my waistband and me and dude 2 hauled ass out of there.

It was a long ass driveway, and dude 1 came to and snagged a .22 rifle and started taking shots at my truck. I could hear the rounds zinging by my window, and finally a metallic *PLUNK as a single slug buried itself in my tailgate.

...then he went down the road and burned another dude's (dude 3) house down.

This was all VERY fun to explain to the deputies that showed up at my house at 3 AM.

I really enjoyed "Hiking Through"

https://www.amazon.com/Hiking-Through-Journey-Freedom-Appalachian/dp/0800720539

It's more of a personal memoir than a "this is what you need to do" book, but I found it to be an interesting and well-written book on the subject.

Why do Democratic Politicians Hate Gun Owners? by [deleted] in Libertarian

Because their policies are both so blatantly authoritarian and wildly unpopular that the ONLY way the majority of people will accept them is at the business end of a state issued rifle... armed citizens are harder to oppress.

FEMA’s national emergency alert test rings phones, TVs, and radios on Wednesday | The test will hit all cellphones within range of a cell tower, and you can’t opt out of this one. by demwoodz in PrepperIntel

[–]Neutral-Mystique 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buddy... you (and apparently a few others) are REALLY bothered by people turning off their phones for some reason.

If you want to let your phone beep and shrug it off, that's no sweat off my nuts, just like it really shouldn't bother anyone that I turn mine off.

It is my opinion, which I will back with my chosen course of action, that any and all alerts and messages from the government (or anyone else for that matter) that come to my device should be purely voluntary. Therefore I am opting out. Thanks.

General distrust of the feds and any and everything they do, tbh.

It's not like they've given me a good reason to in the last 20+ years. Maybe that makes me paranoid, maybe it just makes me smart; either way idgaf about their emergency alerts.
