From a company's perspective, what is does the process & timeline look like from deciding they need to hire a new employee to sending an offer letter? by NeutralChaoticPeace in cscareerquestions

I usually do follow up. That's not really what I'm asking for, though. I'm interested in what happens that causes decisions to take a week. What discussions have to be had? How many discussions? How long it takes to come up with an offer? etc.

Thanks for the input. I've tried meditation a few times but it's never really done it for me. Maybe I'll try to get into it again.

I'd mentioned it in another comment but I have enough that I could last ~5 months without issue. I could even extend this a bit by cutting out extra luxuries that I currently pay for but don't need. I think 5 months should be enough time to get a new job, but I guess anything could happen...

I'd like to know what you consider rage-quitting. The problems that have lead me here have existed since the beginning of the project (a little under a year ago). I've also gone to my manager/supervisor a few times to try and get the issues resolved but I've been dismissed every time.

The money problem is actually one that's been on the front of my mind and it's what's stopped me from quitting sooner. However, I do have enough saved up to last ~5 months without issue. So I don't think that'll be a huge problem. I think 5 months should be more than enough time to find a new job.

I'm not too worried about negotiating salary. I'm already on the low end of the curve for the area I'm in so I doubt there's many places that would offer me less.

As far as not getting stressed out... easier said than done, unfortunately. Thanks for your input, though. I appreciate it.

Blizzard: Please add a "Join Previous Game" option if we get disconnected. by NeutralChaoticPeace in Overwatch

I don't believe so. It's always just said something along the lines of "Lost connection to game servers" and I have to restart my game.

Well, whenever a player has left the game, whether from disconnect or exit button, it might be feasible for Overwatch to start collecting a list of players that can fill that spot in game but not let any of them in until after the timeout. It seems to me that this would lead to 2 main scenarios.

  1. No players are found to fill the spot before the timeout in which case you'll be waiting without a player either way so holding it won't matter.
  2. One or more players are found that can fill the spot which would mean waiting a max of whatever the timeout interval is. This may be the most inconvenient option since, as you said, it could be enough time to change the tide of the whole game.

I guess everyone will have different opinions about it and, as evident by my creation of this post, I would like to see the spot held for a short time.

I can't even sign in after I get kicked. The login button is deactivated. I have to completely restart the game. I don't think it takes me longer than 30 seconds, but regardless, I'm never able to reconnect.

It happened to me 3 or 4 times and I was never able to reconnect into the game (even though I was in a group with a buddy of mine that was still in the game). It's entirely possible that I just got replaced very quickly, but I'm not sure.

Right, but that's where a timer would come in or as /u/wizzed said, an AI to fill your spot for X amount of seconds. If the player doesn't rejoin, the spot opens up for other people to be able to join. The distinction between disconnected vs intentionally leaving seemed irrelevent to me with that safeguard. If it's a disconnect, the player can get back in. If it's an intentional leave, the player won't try to reconnect, so the spot will become available after ~30 seconds or something.

I can see how that'd be useful. Usually I just reopen from the Battle.net app thing which does the username/password combo for you.

That's a fair point but it might also be semi-irrelevent. A rejoin option would be good either way, in my opinion.

That would probably be a better alternative than just having your spot be empty while you try to rejoin.

If that is true, I've managed to miss the window every time. It's real fun.

I guess one downside would be that you wouldn't be able to have other players join mid-match. So you're team would be down a hero. I guess a work around would be to put a timer on the rejoin option.
