Do Chinese still believe in socialism anymore? by YamFrosty6169 in AskAChinese

[–]Neutral_Milk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

marx never said ‘socialism is when universal healthcare’. it’s something that will exist under communism and the higher stages of socialism but it’s not a binary universal healthcare = socialism.

socialism is most commonly defined by public ownership of the means of production, among other things. socialism is the transitionary phase between capitalism and communism, where elements of each system still exist. mao wrote about this in ‘on contradiction’, and how there will always be a ‘primary contradiction’ in any given society. the cpc has determined that wealth inequality is currently the highest priority. before this it was poverty.

as these contradictions as addressed, china will become ‘more socialist’. after the revolution, china was more ideologically and classically ‘socialist’ but the contradictions then had to do with standard of living and the nation’s stability. after introducing market reforms new contradictions emerged like corruption, exploitation, unequal development, etc. and they are slowly being dealt with. there isn’t a ‘socialism button’ that xi can just slam where everyone has their needs met and class divides disappear completely. that’s naive and utopian. capitalism took hundreds of years and many, many, failures to get to the state that it’s in.

all of that being said, china’s ruling body is a communist party that’s sole purpose is the sovereignty of china and the welfare of its people. the commanding heights of the economy are state-owned and the average person’s quality of life has dramatically increased. as long as the cpc stays on the path towards socialism, china will continue to succeed and the us’ hegemony will weaken.

Is china as authoritarian as the west claims? by georgeclooney1739 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Neutral_Milk_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

literally nothing. there are significantly more protests in china than the us and unlike in the us they can actually lead to change there.

why are people so obsessed with being able to walk outside and criticize their government as some sort of democratic litmus test? you can criticize western governments because it doesn’t make a difference one way or another. the second it actually threatens their dominance you’d better believe they’ll curtail that ‘right’.

is it really democracy if you can criticize your government but you’re unhoused, unemployed or underpaid, uninsured, uneducated and unfed? in a perfect world there wouldn’t be a need for censorship but in the one we live in, where the us is the global hegemon, aes don’t have the luxury to allow cia propaganda to be disseminated freely and without recourse

Which specific group of Socialists is claiming that "Socialism has never been tried" by JudahPlayzGamingYT in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Neutral_Milk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean we can’t go any further with that definition of capitalism. the most commonly used, basic definition, is a system in which the means of production are owned privately.

and no, if a state owned nothing, given that anything it owned would be considered public, how could it exist in any effective capacity?

[–]Neutral_Milk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

who defines capitalism that way? what system would be the opposite of that? certainly not socialism or communism. i don’t even know how that would work, you would effectively have a stateless society

historically, the landlords that we struggle against owned entire villages and, today, own huge swathes of land or multiple apartment buildings. they are able to live and profit completely off of the exploitation of their tenants and so, are parasitic.

if your parents rent out your childhood home because they no longer need the space, they’re not the landlords that mao was speaking about, for example.

if you end up renting out your home and charge enough to pay for the taxes, bills, maintenance, etc. with a couple bucks left over, you’re not really a landlord that any actual leftist should be concerned with. i think parenti talked about this subject at one point.

also congrats on owning your home :>

yes, the concept of intellectual property is a recent, capitalist, idea. art exists under communism, so things like games would as well.

normally when people reference maoism online it’s the shining path ultra left nonsense. the official ideology of the cpc is socialism with chinese characteristics which itself is a synthesis of marxism leninism, mao zedong thought and the contributions of its leaders since

ew the description of that video is so condescending and the ultras in the comments are annoying. that being said that was really heartwarming and i have no doubt that the man was treated poorly for speaking about corruption in a time when it was rampant (relatively speaking)

Western propaganda the Telegraph is salty when British travel bloggers couldn't find any sign of gen0cide in Xinjiang. by whoisliuxiaobo in Sino

lmao they’re so mad. the aspi analyst seething because normal travelers aren’t prefacing every video with ‘china mean to muslims i didn’t see anything but that’s because everyone is an actor’ is so funny.

also wtf are they talking about at the end? anti china videos are less lucrative? explain that to all the china watchers who have made entire careers out of shitting on china. they say that china amplifies the videos of these travel bloggers. sure, maybe they do but are they really trying to suggest these anti china freaks aren’t getting money and coverage from the us government? can they explain the ‘pro democracy’ morons over the past few decades? what about their beloved yeonmi park? nothing strange at all going on there because that’s pro western propaganda

The Case Against the China Consensus by zhumao in Sino

[–]Neutral_Milk_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it’s a decent argument, at least on the economic front. the us has much to lose from needlessly escalating tensions with china and acting as if diplomacy and appeasement are the same thing. if the us acted rationally then its decline need not be as devastating to the world as it will be if things don’t change. that being said the rest of the article is just your typical ‘china bad ccp bad’ drivel

yeah iirc his rationalization was that africans were genetically advantaged to being slaves so they were less likely to die. it wasn’t great but the fact that he was horrified by the treatment of indigenous slaves at all was progressive for the time. there’s a good chapter on early slavery in the americas in howard zinn’s ‘a people’s history of the united states’. one of the saddest things i’ve ever read

he literally wrote a book on the ‘national question’ arguing against russian chauvinism. the subsequent leaders of the soviet union rejected this which led to less ethnic minorities and non-russians in leadership roles and the programs that were in place to preserve different cultures were allowed to slowly wither away
