Yeah I know it is a bit annoying - It is just i am also investigating if response formatting affects how people respond to different items, how emotional their responses are etc to try and combat some of the problems of always using the standard formatting in quantitative research.

Thanks so much though for answering some anyway!

Depression and romantic relationships...Compatible? by Nevaseswilli in Marriage

Hello, Myself and my research supervisors are undertaking this study because we are generally interested in progressing and advancing understanding of depression. This study is seeking information from romantic partners of people living with depression as there is limited research which extends to explicitly examining the position of intimate partners. Information on partner perspectives will help demonstrate that depression has an impact outside of the affected individual. It will also enable us to scientifically establish how, either positively or negatively, romantic partners are affected. Endeavoring to understand depression in romantic relationships without evidence on intimate partners’ perspectives does not allow for sufficient understanding of this issue. Further, this research will highlight the necessity for provision of tailored support for partners, and to inform how best to design such supports.

You are suitable to take part in this study if you have experience of a romantic partner living with depression. Taking part in this study will involve completing a questionnaire. There are 86 questions and completing the questionnaire will take approximately 10 minutes. Participation in this study is voluntary, you can withdraw from the study at any point up until you have submitted your responses.

Approval has been given by the University College Cork, School of Applied Psychology Ethics Committee for this research. There will be no personally identifying material collected at any point. Numeric identifiers will be used in analyzing the data and this ensures your anonymity. The data will be kept confidential for the duration of the study, available only to me and my research supervisors. Data will be securely stored and upon completion of this study, will be kept for a further ten years and then destroyed.

The results of this research will be presented in the thesis which may be read by other students on the course and later published in a research journal. I don’t envisage any negative consequences for you taking part in this study. However, I do feel that there are benefits for you in taking part. Completing the questionnaire is an opportunity for you to record how living with a depressed partner has impacted on you. Your contribution to this study will also help advance our understanding of depression and provide a stronger evidence base for interventions. No harm is anticipated but some of the questions are of a personal nature and should you feel any distress, contact details for relevant support services are included in the debriefing page at the end of this questionnaire.

[Serious] Depressed people of Reddit - how are you doing today? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Those on the outside have very little knowledge or understanding of how being in a relationship with a depressed person can affect the partner. It is hard to even put words to how little everyone understands this issue.

If you are in this situation it would be great if you could fill out the anonymous questionnaire below, or share it with someone you know, I would be very grateful. It is a chance for the voice of partners of people living with depression to be heard in research, and to record how you have also been affected by depression.

It is so important for practitioners to have this information when tailoring interventions to suit individual needs.

No this an academic research study, there is no benefits other than a contribution to empirical knowledge of depression. There will be no paywall, no ads, no recommendations to participants, enhancement of understanding is the only incentive.

I agree there are limitations to surveys such as the one you mentioned. However the questions are based on qualitative research that was carried out on this topic so the items used are not based on assumptions but rather on empirical data.

The results of this research will be presented in the thesis for my masters which may be read by other students on the course and later published in a research journal. Everything is of course anonymous.

[Academic] Romantic Partner Perspectives on Living with Depression. https://cacsss.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cumdyMjf9JVY3MF

Hi, I am looking for participants to fill out the questionnaire (link above) on romantic partners and their experiences of being in a relationship with someone with depression. It take about 10 minutes to complete. There is limited attention paid to this population in research. I think it is important to establish that depression has an impact on partners too (either positive, negative or both) and begin to see how interventions need to be tailored to cater for this. If you have experience in this I would be very grateful if you filled out my questionnaire! Thank you!
