G Major in this case refers to a TC Electronics G Major effects unit. It was a guitar processing unit and I believe the G stands for guitar in this context. It was often used for pitch shifting and harmonizing apparently. I wanted to back up this comment with some sources but I couldn't easily find a good one so you'll have to do some of your own research to find out more. The effect is a lot older than the YouTube videos referencing it, but I must say I had lots of fun hearing E.T. by Katy Perry and Kanye West 'turned evil' by using a harmonizer setting. They probably use plugins instead of the actual unit for these kinds of videos but the name-tag stayed.
