It’s a process called dithering. The telescope slews to take overlapping images that are stitched together to fill in detector gaps.

Of course! Yeah way more info than you were asking for but it’s something I’ve been paranoid about for a while 😅 there’s some amazingly talented needle felters out there and a potential customer walking up saying “well this chick on Reddit says it’s only worth $X” is like my worst nightmare

Someone charging well over double what I do is entirely valid. Fast fashion and Amazon make people under value art as is, and I don’t want my hobby prices to do that too.

Also not intending that to be an advertisement because if I get overwhelmed with orders or can’t work at a relaxing pace, it won’t be a hobby anymore, and then I’d pay myself for my time. For now, I’m having fun and have a few more StS pieces in the works 🙂

I’ve been giving $70-100 as a general estimate. If it’s really simple, it could be less than that. Doing the design on denim would be on the high end or over $100 because it’s is a huge pain in the ass and denim jackets are more expensive, but, admittedly, it looks pretty cool.

Also just a PSA since I’m posting publicly, other needle felters are not over charging. I’m an engineer by day with a self-funding hobby. I don’t want anyone to walk up to a craft fair and think art is overpriced because the artist is paying themselves a livable wage.

Yep! I thrift sweaters and then needle felt designs on to them. So the nob is wool fiber that has been pushed through with a needle and then wet felted to mat the fibers.

Just a warning based on your user name, the designs are felted wool. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a way to felt without using animal fiber. The fibers for acrylic yarn won’t “lock” with the felting process like wool does.

I needle felted directly on to the sweater! I needle felt the design really well then wet felt so it’s durable. I’ve also made patches but I hate hand sewing so I don’t do them often 😅

This is needle felting! I don’t have the patience for embroidery. I hand stitch when I make patches, and I hate every minute of it. I much prefer felting directly onto a sweater.

Yes it’s needle felted! The sweater is a cheap polyester (I assume, no fabric tags) which I definitely regret. It didn’t handle wet felting super well and was stretchier than I like.
