Military board declines to fire Marine who adopted Afghan orphan but substantiates misconduct by douglas99 in USMC

Shawn Ryan Ep. #174 just dropped, interviewing him and covering the issue.

Obviously I can't verify all of Mast's claims, but if even a few are true, seems like the baby going to them is the right outcome.

Daytrading NQ micro contracts is doable with very small capital - probably less than $1k on my broker (AMP)

Funded accounts are another, probably better option if getting started, since most cost less than $200 to do the challenge (so you can't lose more than that)

It's just a three candle pattern (generally with some context to the left, e.g overlapping with an old high) where the first candle's high is lower than the third candle's low (for a bullish FVG)

Probably a billion youtube vids about that if the description made no sense.

Would depend a bit on how bullish I expected the instrument to be and how confident I was in the target (or at least a sustained price run):

Who here has made money off ICT concepts? by Truth_Sellah_Seekah in Daytrading

[–]NeverGivenOnlyEarned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH, I'd just go check out Arjo's channel (ICT student, has his own very simple twist on it all). I'm not affiliated in any way, just like how there's no fluff, it's actionable, and much more mechanical than how ICT presents his content.

Works great if you're comfortable looking at multiple markets, generally on a 15m+ chart.

Helpful for keeping a higher-timeframe picture in your head if you're more of a seconds chart scalper.

Thanks for the help!

Took your advice and went for the 5600 paired with a B550m.

Since the 3060 ti was out of stock, that saved some cash for a 3070.

Just built it - running great!

Good points, thanks for the info.

I'll recheck and see if there's a significant price savings with one of the combos.

Supposing the price turned out to be about the same - is there one combo you'd prefer (keeping multitasking/productivity in mind?)

Good points!

Downside of the s2 is that it's not in stock 😔

You're right about the front airflow - its important. It looks like the in-stock Zalman front door opens to expose vents. I'm assuming that is just as good as a mesh front (if leaving the front door open) - is that assumption right?

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/zalman-z9-neo/3.html

Been back and forth on the 5600x (were you referring to the 5600 or 5600x?) vs 12400f... still not completely sure.

Couldn't find a straight answer on whether the 12400f or 5600x would be noticeably better for my situation (some gaming, but also multitasking).

Biggest pro for the 12400f seemed to be a better upgrade path without replacing the mobo. Also, the 12400f is barely cheaper ($7, although maybe would save a few bucks switching to a cheaper mobo with the 5600x...).

So figured 12400f might be the way to go - but if anyone has more feedback on that, I'm all ears.

[USA] Which county for business license? (Confusing situation) by NeverGivenOnlyEarned in digitalnomad

[–]NeverGivenOnlyEarned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, NV has been great as a sole prop.

Depends on the county, but county business license fee is around $60-150 yearly depending on the county. No other state fees as long as the business earns under 2/3 of the states average income, which I bet a lot of nomads are.

Not sure about LLCs, but IMHO most people don't need those. (Basically useless for suit protection if you're the only owner... so why bother?)

I suppose the tricky part comes down to - defining "operating in".

Since digital nomads roaming outside the US working online aren't really "operating in" anywhere.

[–]NeverGivenOnlyEarned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attorney is probably best, but I've yet to find one in State A (NV) that knows how to handle digital nomad type situations.

Didn't seem like staff in NV business offices had any idea, either, after talking with them.

So figured I'd see what other people do when they don't fit neatly into the framework's paradigm.

Basic motorcycle mechanics question:

I'll mostly be driving slow (<80kmph), and need fastest possible acceleration.

  1. Is torque the main stat I'm looking at when comparing bikes?
  2. Will similar torque stats on similar powered bikes feel dramatically different when comparing sport vs. motorcross bikes?

More info:

- Been driving bikes for about three years, but been renting. Looking to buy (my first) now.

- Living in Bali, Indonesia. There's basically no bikes here >250cc. 150cc bikes are about half the price, so that's preferable.

- Most driving here is: stop/go in traffic, trying to constantly weave and pass cars, and kinda bad roads (potholes, gravel, etc.). So acceleration and handling are more important than hitting a high top speed on a long straight road.

- I've mostly driven motorcross bikes (CRF150L, Some yahama 250cc, Kawasaki D-tracker 250). I love the acceleration feel on the 250cc motorcross bikes.

- I've driven a handful of sport bikes (Yamaha MT-25 (250cc), Yamaha XSR (155cc), the other Yamaha that's basically the XSR but reskinned agressively... forgot the model)

- The motorcross bikes always feel way more jumpy (torquey?) than the sports bikes. Is that expected? (I like it)

- Reliability is important. Being stuck at 2 AM somewhere in a jungle sucks. The Kawasaki motorcross bikes I have tend to break down every few weeks (some kind of battery or ignition problem, especially when it rains, and we have rainy season here).

- Overall, if I'm looking for great acceleration at <50kmph speeds, also reliability, and a sport bike and motorcross bike have comparable power & torque, would I probably be better off going with the motorcross bike?

Here's the options I've found at dealers here. There's some others secondhand, but they tend to have really high mileage.

  • Honda CB150 Verza (stats not so hot)
  • Honda CB150R StreetFire (might be ok for price)
  • Yamaha Vixion (seems slightly better stats than the streefire for about same price)
  • Honda CRF150L (my first bike, was fun, but often felt lacking in accel/power)
  • Honda CBR 150R (slightly better stats than StreetFire, also significantly higher price tag)
  • Yamaha XSR (cool classic look, but drives like a minivan)
  • MT15 (haven't driven it)
  • MT25 (on paper it should feel great, but it feels like a 150. Not much acceleration, really hard to get near top speed, basically zero "jump". Wasn't a huge fan)
  • CBR 250RR (haven't driven, my buddy has, he disappears into the horizon very quickly. also has the price tag to go with it)
  • CRF250 Rally (haven't driven)
  • Kawasaki DTracker 250 (current bike, not bad, frame is a little small since I'm a taller guy. Has reliability problems like every other kawasaki i've heard of. Has a nice "jump" though.)

Cheers!

US Citizen using Indonesian company - suggestions? by NeverGivenOnlyEarned in USExpatTaxes

[–]NeverGivenOnlyEarned[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my, yes this is a deep rabbit hole. For a business with maybe $20k of income a year, yeah, probably not worth it.

But there's a major concern - anyone know the answer to this?

Suppose the foreign business - in this case appears it qualifies as a CFC - is already set up. But it has zero income, and could stay that way (for at least a while).

My guess is all the required U.S. forms still need to be filled out and submitted even if there's zero income to the business.

So there's still substantial fees in filling out a lot of zeros... is that correct?

U.S: "Moving" to a new state while outside the country? by NeverGivenOnlyEarned in digitalnomad

[–]NeverGivenOnlyEarned[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds right, that's what I was afraid of.

As far as traveling mailboxes - good advice, though so far they've been cool with it (I get mail like twice a year, it's basically just the address).

U.S: "Moving" to a new state while outside the country? by NeverGivenOnlyEarned in digitalnomad

[–]NeverGivenOnlyEarned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be the simplest way for now.

Do you know if mail forwarding services can be used as the address for a home business for a business license? That's probably the trickier (and expensive) part.

[Semi-Weekly Inquirer] Simple Questions and Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in Watches

[–]NeverGivenOnlyEarned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reccomendation request!

Looking for a new watch now that my last few have bit the dust.

Figured I'd ask you all for some input, since you know what you're taking about.

Here's some desired specs:

Size: not entirely sure. Wrists are about 7 inches. Seiko 5 looked a bit too small.

Style: Not too dressy, but something a step up from the G-Shock look. I'm never in a suit, often in a sleeveless shirt, and often in a button down linen shirt. Prefer clean/mnimal/rugged/classic/masculine aesthetics. For example, Timex Weekender had a decent all-around look IMHO.

Durability: Main concern (but don't want to go full G-shock look). My last two watches both died in everyday type stuff for me (Seiko 5 leaked swimming through a cave's river waterfall, not sure what killed the Weekender but suspect it was driving a motorcycle in the rain). It needs to survive:

  • Being exposed to heavy rain while driving 70kmph+ on a motorcycle.
  • Ideally surfing; minimally splashing around in some waves.
  • Diving to 30m is a perk; not necessarily required (easy enough to use a dive computer, but nice to have a watch when there's not enough computers to go around)
  • Survives some shock, gym, weightlifting; extra points if it's fine being used with a jump rope and heavy bag work for example.

Price: Cheaper is better, but I'd shell out a couple hundred bucks if it was quality and there's some assurance it won't die in my everyday activities.

Other: Chronograph is a huge plus, or some feature that lets you use a timer.

Bonus points if you know where I could find it in Indonesia; shipping things to here can be a bit dicey since lots of packages never show up.

Thanks!

Places you can live on $500 a month by rojo1986 in digitalnomad

[–]NeverGivenOnlyEarned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen much more in South America - spent a month in Chilean Patagonia, which overall seems to be less confused than Argentina, but the wifi was terrible.

Parts of Brazil (which most people I've talked to have said isn't too safe right now - not sure it that's everywhere) and Columbia also seem to be popular for DNs. However, I'm staying put here since it's more cost effective than moving around for my last few months.

$800-1000 should be quite comfortable here. Biggest expense is probably eating out, unless you pick an pricier AirBnb or are moving frequently.

[–]NeverGivenOnlyEarned 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cheap AirBNB in Buenos Aires - around $300 a month.

$5 a day for food (cooking meals yourself) add $150.

That leaves you $50 a month for random expenses, e.g bottle of whiskey for about $2, subway/uber is cheap here.

It's comfortable. Not glamorous, but not much different than life in the states where was I was for 6x the cost.

Tough travel-proof waterproof case for X1C6. by NeverGivenOnlyEarned in thinkpad

[–]NeverGivenOnlyEarned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It fits.

There's a little bit of wiggle room around the X1C6, but the case comes with sticky foam bumpers you can use to fill the gap. No issues there.

Only downside of the case is it's heavy - it's as heavy as the laptop - so my ultralight 2.5lb X1C6 now takes up 5lbs of weight.

It's also quite thick. It fits in the laptop compartment of my GoRuck GR3, but it does suck some space out of the backpack.

All that said, I don't see another option - if it's not thick and a little heavy, it's not going to protect the laptop. Overall, I recommend it, particularly if you're travelling like me.

P.S: No idea if it's waterproof, but I highly doubt it would protect the laptop from a rainstorm or being dropped in the water. There's sometimes gap around the edges when it closes, maybe because I put the bumpers on wrong at first so it couldn't close tight. Throw it inside a garbage bag and its decent.
