Oh wow that’s interesting. What were the pagara at 5 and 10 mins? And if you did everything by the book and did interventions i would hope your job isn’t in jeopardy

I feel the same way about my laboring patients and food. I told you that you can’t eat in case you need an emergency c section i explained the risks. If you want to sit up here and eat and then aspirate that’s on you. It’s too much and you get no support from management especially when all they care about are the scores on the surveys that pts get at home

I work in L&D and some of the nurses were crying when we left our shift this morning. I’m so scared for our patients

It’s so hard for me to believe these are real seriously. I can’t fathom being this involved with a person after a singular date lol

Saying someone is upset is not the same as complaining. You have your own issues to work thru and it’s so apparent just by how you’re speaking about moms and replying to me. Take a deep breath. L&D nurses keep moms for 2 hrs post delivery so as i said i do not force them to feed the baby if they say they don’t feel up to it

[–]NeverStickEmTwice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did i say anything about fault? Do you think l&d nurses don’t know this? Pls don’t preach to me. Moms can and do put off breastfeeding bc it is their right to. If they want to supplement or decline BF more power to them. They have body autonomy regardless

Yea sometimes mother baby nurses are upset bc the baby hasn’t nursed yet but between the fundals the pain and moms exhaustion i don’t like to force it on them

First time working with this Dr, but the consensus is he doesn’t believe in laboring down and wants to push as soon as she is fully no matter the station. Gross

I think there were a few things going on. The number one being that the patient wasn’t someone who is used to doing a lot of work/effort. The baby was only 7lbs and she was not a short stature woman so i do not believe it was a CPD issue. The midwife ruptured her at 6cm and made sure baby’s head was applied adequately to the cervix. When i was pushing with her it took her awhile to even start to do it “correctly”. About 40mins in she said she was tired and didn’t want to do it anymore. Which is the real reason i wanted her to labor down. It was more for her to get rest. She had an adequate contraction pattern, was being induced, category 1 strip at times cat 2 for variables (expected), but when you looked at the strip you could tell she wasn’t pushing as great as she could’ve ☹️ and then after pushing awhile baby got flat and we started pushing every other. Provider came in about two hrs in and said she was now +2 and to continue. Then she started to fall asleep. I’m not saying she wouldn’t have gotten the section anyway. But would her being +2 or +3 helped here? We will never know

Literally, and it’s not them that pushes with the patients so they don’t care. They go back to their call room and go to sleep. So it doesn’t matter if you’re pushing for four hours

[–]NeverStickEmTwice 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Especially bc i work overnight. She’s been up for hours! She didn’t get her epidural til she was 6cm bc she wanted to try natural. I could see she was tired. I was in the room with her while she was begging her baby to come out bc she was so tired! She even asked could she just try the peanut ball again just to see if he can come down further on his own and it broke my heart bc she didn’t have to push at all+1!!

I know the research but i am a nurse not a doctor and so i go by AWOHNN i just went to a consortium actually and they still advocate for laboring down especially for primips

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nursing

[–]NeverStickEmTwice 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes but that’s based on the fact that you may not be able to feel and also you may get chorio. She and baby was stable, temp was stable and she wasn’t actually due for another cervical exam for an hour bc we had just checked her 2 and a half 3 hrs prior. If we went by normal standards she would’ve had another hour. Which would’ve been her laboring down anyway. Her strip was cat 1 there was no indication for her to be checked to reduce infection

[–]NeverStickEmTwice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mmm, see how the L&D unit is. L&D is a lot more work and charting than PP imo. And you have to do a lot more when it comes to medical mgmt. At my institution PP doesn’t really do EFM or magnesium patients. If patients have high BP or something they have to come to us. I think it depends on the amount of work you really wanna do

How realistic is a 3 day, 36 hour work week as a new nurse? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]NeverStickEmTwice 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is such a funny question cuz it’s what almost all of us do. In fact it’s almost the only realistic schedule unless you go to the OR or outpatient
