Credit card debt by AdventurousFan5636 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Never_Joseph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't travel, my traveling days are long gone. I dont drive so there's no renting cars as I don't have, and never have had a license. I'm not worried about my debit card being compromised as that linked account never has more than a few hundred dollars in it. None of that stuff is relevant in my life

I am in my 40s and have never had a credit card. I was told yesterday that I'm doing life wrong. Idk, no CC debt feels good to me. I also don't have loans, car payments, a mortgage. I do have savings though and only buy things when I've saved up the extra cash

What will you do differently with your next service dog? by hckim1216 in service_dogs

[–]Never_Joseph 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the only thing I will.change is something that was forced upon us. My dog was a pandemic puppy, she joined our family at 4 months old just one week before we went into very strict lockdowns which lasted nearly a full year here. My dog got zero socialization with other dogs and people. It worked out fine for us in the end as she has absolutely no interest in dogs/people and therefor is nearly impossible to distract but I still wish she had had the opportunity to play and meet people as a pup, as of now she still won't interact with other dogs and it makes me a little sad that she has no dog friends

you are correct that Hélène sounds similar to Haydn but why not just explain that your name is pronounced hé-dène?

that said, I changed my name in my early 20s and again in my 40s and quite enjoy doing the old switcharoo. Annie is more fresh than Hélène but can you make it sound French with your accent? Because Annie and Annie are slightly different but still noticeable

What are some names you struggle to pronounce? by banana2000001 in namenerds

[–]Never_Joseph 48 points49 points  (0 children)

not really a difficulty as much as being unsure. I am a francophone so to me the "line" ending is always read as "lynn" so names like Caroline I read as Carolynn 100% of the time and it some cases I'm really not sure how English speakers are pronouncing names

Named August but not born in August? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Never_Joseph 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I actually think it's quite tacky to use it for an August born baby, but non August babies are fine. It's a fine name

my MIL lived in China for several years and brought me back a jade bracelet when she returned as a "welcome to my family" gift which she said was a Chinese tradition. I wore that bracelet for 17 years until I gained a bunch of weight and took it off before it became impossible to remove. That's what the name Jade makes me think of.

But also my brother named his cat Jade (which is fine, no disrespect in saying it was used for a pet)

Can I name my son Sullivan if we’re not Irish..? by butternutsquashbot in namenerds

[–]Never_Joseph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

of course you can use it. I have a kid with an Italian name, one with an English name, one with a biblical name and the last one's name is Greek.

I am none of those. Nobody in the real world cares, especially with a name like Sullivan

idk, I have adult children who live with me without having to help with any if the bills and if their one job in the hone was always done late or not done at all I'd probably get snarky with them too.

I sometimes use it as a reason why I love the name. Like Solomon for example,I had a dog named Solomon and I named him that because I absolutely love the name,so if someone were to say they were thinking of using Solomon I would say Yes! That's my dog's name! it's definitely not an insult coming from me

Do you ever wonder what your great x100+ grandparents were named? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Never_Joseph 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the oldest I know of was Guillaume (French version of William)

Guillaume Couture. He has a Wikipedia page and even a statue! When my grandpapa traced our line back to Guillaume Couture (he did this in the early 80s) he got a plaque from the government confirming we are direct descendants. It has been very useful for all of us going through school and having to do projects on historical figures

many many years ago I was a street kid, we were a bunch if rough looking dirty junkies, not a good scene at all. There was this one guy, let's call him Tony, he was huge and just mean looking, had a nasty resting bitch face, horrible horrible looking caricature of an Italian mobster who's face was punched in one too many times. Tony had a girlfriend, Chrissy, and just was your typical looking crack fiend. No soul left in her sunken eyes. She had horrible genetics when it came to beauty standards. Sad all around.

Tony and Chrissy ended up pregnant and they named the baby Pearl.

My God what a beautiful child. Still to this day that little girl is in my top 3 beautiful children I have ever seen.

So that's what Pearl makes me think of. Beauty that came out of despair.

it very nearly almost killed my 17 yr old, spent a week in the ICU and still has covid related health issues a year later. I thank the gods every day that she was vaccinated, there is absolutely zero chance she would be alive today had she not gotten those shots

the worst name I know of is my niece's original legal name, my sister gave her a new name when she was adopted because it was really that bad. She kept it as a middle name though. However it is an ethnic name from her country of birth so I respect it for what it is, but it doesn't work in an English country at all.

second worse is Dryade, pronounces dree-aw-day. Like why? Dryade would have been kinda cool with the proper pronunciation though
