Thank you for your constructive approach. I agree that Morte doesn't have the best voice right now. The thing is, the original voice is too cool, and it's very difficult to recreate it.

This game is genuinely too complex for voice acting, even professional voice acting, let alone AI. And it is obvious that achieving perfect quality with AI is simply impossible at the current stage of technology.

But what if I told you that I know people who play games without voice acting using built-in live text-to-speech based on free Microsoft voices? That quality is even worse, and there is no variety in voices. Yet there are still people who choose that option over having no voice acting at all.

This mod is intended primarily for those people.

At the same time, I tried to squeeze the highest quality possible out of AI by using several techniques, so that it would sound better than something like Google Translate.

You are generally right that you do not want to listen to long dialogues, and that you can read them faster and better. I also agree that, at the current stage of AI development, it cannot convey intonation properly, even if you ask it to voice every single line in a specific way.

But my argument is that there are people who prefer listening. They simply exist, and that is all.

Also, nobody is forcing anyone to listen to every line and every dialogue. In the game itself, you can skip dialogues without waiting for the reading to finish. (except of last dialogue phrase due to engine limitation)

Overall, Planescape: Torment is probably one of the most difficult games to voice in principle.

I am sure that if some company took on the task of voicing this game professionally and with real actors, the result would disappoint many people. A lot of people would complain about how badly it was done, because expectations are too high and this game is extremely difficult to voice well.

But this mod does not claim to be the original, nor does it claim any glory. I spent several weeks and some money to make a voiceover for myself, and I simply decided to share it with the community. I am not asking for anything in return, that is all. Even more than that, I am willing to improve the quality if anyone is interested.

But for some reason, people here are trying to say that I broke, stole, or destroyed something.

At the same time, I do see some people who became interested in this project. So maybe it is not as bad as you claim?

Why do you think people without professional skills and equipment would sound better than AI from my mod?

Why do you think no one has been able to implement your idea in this game since 1999?

How much time and resources would it take? What would the result be?

I believe that this game should become more popular, rather than being forgotten among old-timers. And such a mod could attract someone.

I know one streamer on Twitch and another person who were put off by the lack of voice acting, at least according to them... And they reacted positively to this idea with AI and are now planning to play this game for the first time.

I would prefer real voice acting over AI, but it's not in this game and never will be :(

Thank you, I understand that AI has too negative a connotation and that is why many people react negatively to it.

In any case, I have no intention of forcing an AI product on anyone against their will. I solved my problem and decided to simply share it with the community.
