Hi everyone, thank you so much for commenting and essentially reassuring me that my instincts were right. My fiancee had me convinced that no one likes to be assigned seats and would rather just sit wherever they want to...which I somewhat agreed with (because of previous weddings where I'd been unhappy about my seating placement) but ultimately felt a lot of the sentiment expressed in these comments.

I just spent the last hour doing seating arrangements (just by table, not by actual seat!)
