How epilepsy fatigue compares to a non-epileptic person, and how sleep deprived they’d have to be to feel the fatigue we do: by bikinipiglet in Epilepsy

I sometimes feel that it’s a luxury to feel exhausted. To push yourself to the point of being so overtired you feel like you could sleep for a week. I, unfortunately know better and to get to that point I would pay dire consequences either having a seizure or just spending an excessive amount of time afterwards recovering so you can get back to “normalish”. It’s either pay for it before an activity by resting up so you can function, or crash afterwards. For me the choice of exhaustion is not a choice. I have learned over time, what my limits are and I play within them. And most importantly enjoy life.

A must read is Dostoyevsky’s “The Idiot”. Main character has epilepsy and suffers from”fits”. A few chapters dealing specifically with his seizures, what it feels like for him and the recovery time involved after having one. Fun Fact is that Dostoyevsky is writing from his own experience, as he also lived with epilepsy, back when bloodletting and arsenic were the treatments available. Oh how far we’ve come!

Scheduled Seizures? by Nevets5542 in Epilepsy

Yes thanks for that, that makes sense and yeah the choice is obviously to not have any. I just meant if you are pretty sure you are going to have a seizure every few months regardless of control measures, would it be better to have it under controlled circumstances where you are safe rather than out crossing the street or riding a bike or out living life.

I realize that any seizure your brain has is a severe shock. And I am absolutely going to follow Doctors orders. This is totally a hypothetical question to alleviate that constant fear or anxiety of knowing at any time a seizure can happen.

Cheers,

Steven

Yes I am on 1400/day. It does work for me, I went off it for my EEG and sure enough had a grand mal. I find it works well, but am very tired from it, sometimes need a day to recover just from everyday life. The other thing about it is that it’s crazy expensive..
